This song is a perfect example of why I don't think Slipknot, or any band for that matter, can ever capture that IOWA feel again. That energy and beauty of barely controlled chaos actually put on tape. It can't be replicated.

They've had some amazing singles sprinkled throughout, and even a few that weren't singles, but the first 2 are the only ones I can listen to from start to finish without skipping multiple tracks. I got to see them in 2004 just before I graduated high school. I drove to the arena with 4 of my best friends. Unfortunately we couldn't get general admission tickets (mosh pit), and got stuck in the balcony. I wasn't happy with that and myself and multiple other fans ended up jumping from the balcony into the mosh pit below (~15 feet). I landed on someone, a friend of mine somehow landed in an empty wheelchair and her side was so bruised the next day. We got absolutely destroyed at the concert. It was shortly after they released their 3rd album (the subliminal verses). I used to watch this whole live show on VHS back then, lol! Dating myself a bit. I eventually got the DVD, which I still watch from time to time in my basement theater! Great reaction! Everyone always recommends the 2009 Live Spit it Out, but my heart still lives with the original Spit it Out from this live performance video (the same one as Disasterpiece here).

Yeah. Slipknot has matured a lot over the years and are probably better now than they were back in the Iowa days, but there's something gritty and fascinatingly hostile with their early music that they've lost over the years. As much as I love their recent music, Iowa will always be my favorite album. Probably because it fit perfectly with where I was at in life, personally, at the time of its release. What's cool about the album is that, amidst all the angst and everything pumped up to 11 musically, you can still faintly hear the more intrinsic sound deep in the background that they would eventually bring to the forefront. They are so incredibly talented musicians even this early in their career, and while it would take a while for that to really blossom into something they dove deeper into, it's still an unmistakable part of the album. That's one of the main reasons I love Gentle as much as I do. It's a very tightly-controlled but extremely menacing song. It's like a combination of what they were back then and what they would eventually become, in the best way possible. Great reaction. It's always fun to see people appreciate early Slipknot. It's not everyone's cup of tea but it's a *damn fine* cup of tea if it's your thing.

Now on the drums is Jay Weinberg, on the bass Alessandro Venturella and on percusion Michael Pfaff. Btw they can go heavy like this even these days. From two latest albums i recommend songs like Custer, Orphan or Nero Forte but if i would be you go from start, start with their debut album live shows or videoclips and continue to their newest albums so you get the idea of their progression.

Reactions to anything off their original self-titled album or their second album, Iowa, are Slipknot in their truest form, for me personally. The angst and raw energy from these albums are unmatched by later albums. I don’t gravitate to material after Iowa anywhere near the material from the first two albums. I met Sean Crahan (“Clown”) 12 years ago when he was judging the Best Band in Denver competition the band I was drumming for at the time was in. It was the Final 6 evening and he was watching us play. Pretty intimidating, but we played well and he hung with us for a bit. He’s very humble and down to Earth. He detests the industry nonsense that goes down in music; he made that pretty clear that night. It’s even worse now. To anyone seeking a career in a band, it’s an absolute disasterpiece, indeed. Even if you “make it” - it’s a hellish lifestyle on tour. I don’t know how a nine-piece band does it. Hats off to Slipknot!

Dead memories is a good song too, probably my favorite by slipknot. Another band you should check out is in this moment. They are currently on tour with slipknot and they put on a great show.

Slipknot and Corey are amazing, it’s awesome you’re channel has brought you here! Metal has so many great bands, slipknot being one of the best! 🤘It will take more than just my suggestion, I know, but Inferi is worth your time for a reaction or two. Tons of talent, and absolutely amazing guitar, with some of the greatest metal vocal around, enough said.

There’s no such thing as an “expiration date” or being late to the party when it comes to discovering music. Slipknot is one of my all time favorite bands and I actually just finished learning this song on guitar. I’m so hype to record a cover of it Music comes with time, great vid keep it up. :)
