I remember hearing this song for the first time. I feel like the Iowa album was a gateway to heavier metal for Me. I will always say IOWA and L.D.50 are two of the heaviest and darkest albums from the early 2000’s

You need to listen soiled by mudvayne. You have to listen to the lyrics and imagine yourslef there. Good music changes people. Slipknot second album Slipknot is the best. L.D 50 is equal. Most people don’t know about Slipknot first album mate feed kill repeat. These albums are most liked because of the memories people associate with the songs. There isn’t one song by Slipknot or mudvayne first major album that sucks. This music drive something inside of us that is hard to explain. To me that is what good music does. Regardless of genre. Good music is good music. This just happens to be our way or releasing our thoughts with like minded people at least form a musicians point of view.

One thing to not overlook, is the type of drum sticks Joey uses. He uses weighted ends for that extra oomph. The fact that he could still play that fast and that efficiently and for that long with those sticks is absolutely no joke. The guy was a monster on those drums.
@kodyepidemic
@kodyepidemic Жыл бұрын
He used the Ahead work out sticks yeah? Like the fat and long ones? I had those for a while and those are a motherfucker to play at that pace. His signature ahead sticks were much lighter and easier to play, but those weighted sticks are no joke.

8:36 When your drum tech has to squirt water on the back of your head while your still play , you know its freaking hot. Those jumpsuits for that era were thick and cumbersome. So you know they were producing some major sweat."Mask with no mouth to breathe , heavy bulky jumpsuit and banging your head and drum skins while playing..." he was something special

Half of joeys appeal was the almost constant head banging during sets! The other half was his speed and creativity. “Not the fastest” people will always interject, but Joey was responsible for bringing blast beats into the mainstream from what I’ve learned. And his ease at just sitting down and going all out was always going to be admired! Corey did injure his voice.. largely from screaming without technique and also from jack daniels abuse. He had much better technique now and is sober so he could scream till he needs a glass of water 🤟🏻

I got the notification from Slipknot’s band page, a text from a buddy, and had a coworker standing outside my weld booth in the middle of a weld. When I lifted my hood and checked my phone, my coworker was telling me about his passing. He’s not a Slipknot fan, but he is a drummer and said Joey is The Godfather of metal drumming. Ozzy and Black Sabbath are The Godfather’s of metal, but every metal drummer today knew who Joey was. So I made a playlist of my favorite Slipknot songs with Joey as the drummer and just listened to it the rest of the day. #1 and #2 forever!

He's using a pair of 5A Ahead drumsticks. I used to use em because Joey was my idol growing up. I had a pair of regular Ahead drumsticks n the Joey signature drumsticks along with the signature snare. Those sticks are actually really light n great for speed. They do put out a slightly different sound but it's mainly in the tuning of his kit that packs a punch

Hello again I am some what of a Drum Savant so my palz used to say. Any hoo Joey has been my favorite since I first heard him creating in I guess around 1999 or 2000 or so! The the first live experience was of course SlipKnots big break when they got booked on OZ Fest and after that there seemed to be no ceiling for those guys! The video you watched is actually the first DVD they did and I think it's the best BY FAR they had PACKED Wembley Stadium and your getting in the quarter of a million to a half million folks I would guess.....IT WAS A MASSIVE PRODUCTION.My favorite part of the DVD is that depending on your favorite member of the crew you can enter the menu and cheese the members cameras to watch them and only them! You were correct about the sticks he used AHEAD Signatures and they are about $50 a pair but they last for ever and they are EXTREMELY light and VERY REACTIVE. They are made of a composite that includes multiple material and the Finnish product actually feels and responds like they are made of Fiberglass almost. Tommy Lee also uses them and he has a Signature series as well. Joey actually was signed by Vader I believe. He also was very loyal to Pearl Drums Tama Iron Cobra pedals! Lol! So I am getting the feeling like you may have stumbled into drum cam world and even in to the World of Joey! Unfortunately he is no longer with us and I am to be honest still hurting a little from the news of him and my other favorite drummer had passed not to long before Joey and his death was very impactful on me I am talking about Joeys counterpart at being the best in the game.....Jimmy ( The Rev) from Avenged Sevenfold Obviously. I heard you make a comment about Corey screaming in your face and I immediately thought to myself that you may not have been privied into the inner workings of SLIPKNOT and the odd revolving door of new and old members as of late! Including now their 3 Rd drummer and don't get me wrong I think Jay is an AMAZING drummer but he is not cut out for this Jenre of music and I remember the first time I heard Jay playing some of Joeys older songs and it was VERY NOTICABLE to me and any one that was there that Jay was clearly struggling with the time Signatures required in say People = Shit or my favorite Knot song of all time...... Heretic Anthem. They had obviously slowed the music down in order for their new gun to be able to keep up. I am sure they believed that he would catch up quickly since they are a VERY HARD WORKING BAND and are always touring and of course now they have taken over Oz Fest for Ozzy and Sharon hints the name now....Knot Fest lol. You should message me some time and I will try enlighten you a touch about what I and many others believe may have happened to Joey and the band and it all very obviously culminated into a new drummer a few folks feelings being hurt and unfortunately at the end of the day Joey didn't survive this major life change that he was forced into! Any way enough sad talk I would like to give you my list of the 5 best drummers in the game of Metal although the BEST DRUMMER on earth and my hero from my teen years isn't a typical metal drummer they are a Prog Metal band and this generations leaders. First you had The Beatles......and then Led Zeppelin came and took the crown and now TOOL is still handling the weight of the crown very well. In fact I put them in a group of the best evers but separated them all with Time but I think TOOL is the best band that has ever been accidentally assembled and the world is a better place for it! My name is Twitch and I am about to start my internet career as soon as I get a break in school but I am going to do a variety of things and one will be MY VERY OWN GO PRO Drum Playthrough videos and I hope to see you react to some of them lol! Talk to you soon!

Joey on Iowa was insane… there isn’t much studio footage, like raw audio, from the recording, but from what I have seen, he was ripping… this song really shows the insanity which was his drumming… from the double bass, to the way he thought of drum parts. He was an absolute mad man.

Ok, so Ozzfest 2001 had triple headliners on the second stage - Lamb of God, then Hatebreed, then Slipknot. Having gotten through the first two bands I figured I'd be fine in Slipknot's pit. Boy was I wrong. They opened with this song, and before I knew it everyone in the crowd was horizontal. I had a crush of people on top of me and it took four songs to claw my way out. It's hands down the scariest concert experience I've ever had.

One of the best things about the Disasterpieces DVD was the ability to watch the concert like what you've seen. BUT, also be able to watch the entire concert from any of the 9 members cameras. Some were on their masks. On the Corey screaming at you. It's not screaming. Seven Deadly Sins and You're Making Me Hate You are really good books he's written. Which he reads for the audio books. He has 4 books, so far. The other two are about ghost stories (A Funny Thing Happened) and his thoughts of America just after 2017 (America 51).

RIP Paul and Joey, they're all legends. Corey Taylor was untouchable with the vocals at that time. Not saying he isn't now, but damnit his scream was wild AF back then.....
