Love my Ailunce HD1. It is a great dual band HT for DMR or analog communications. It has become my go to HT in just two weeks of ownership.

This looks like a good step forward. The problem with the DM380 was that the codeplugs needed constantly updated and there was no Linux software available when I had mine. This meant having to borrow a Windows computer every time I needed to make a change to the codeplug and the changes were coming so fast I just gave up. This new radio would make those sort of changes easier.

Hey Lewis. I have been Beta testing the HD1 since last October and although there are still a few bugs, these are being dealt with by repeated firmware upgrades. Ailunce do listen to user issues on the Ailunce HD1/Retevis News and Support Facebook page and (eventually) act accordingly. It was designed originally as a radio for Amateur Radio unlike the reuse of Business Radio DMR hardware as per normal, and the FPP is the magic bit. Pretty much everything can be edited or created on the fly. Enjoy the HD1; I most certainly do. Well done on the video too!! 73, Brian EI8EJB

I have followed your channel for ages and bought a few things off the back of it. I have loved radios since I was a kid and just enjoy listening to stuff really. I have a Baufeng scanner, after watching you review one and its great but don't seem to pick up too much here in Ashton. I have found this one (the Ailunce HD1) for £149 on eBay and wonder if I would be better off or not buying one of these to get more out of it? I don't understand repeaters and what not I just want to scan and listen to random stuff sometimes. I hope this long winded question makes sense?
@RingwayManchester6 жыл бұрын
Hey Jeff! Glad you enjoy it! I'd stick with something simple until you get your head round repeaters etc. You might find a recent video I did on radio scanning interesting and it'll help you to visualise the spectrum. There's plenty to listen to around Ashton, you just have to know where to look. Hope that helps.

Great video Lewis and this radio does look like it may be a 'game-changer' as you say... in particular 'Promiscuous mode'... that really will make it so much easier to get up and running quickly on DMR (programming DMR radios is a black art IMHO). The radio does look a little like the MD380/390's type radio and it appears to be pretty solidly built? For me, sadly, the lack of DMR repeaters in my area is a drawback, but hopefully more will become available soon as DMR seems a great addition to the hobby. Cheers, 73

Decent looking radio there and certainly looks a step above what I have seen so far however its pretty expensive by comparison to the other DMR radios mentioned in the video? if the prices were similar then that would be fair, I would expect this to be better than a radio costing half as much purely because it costs twice as much. I am interested to hear the digital audio quality from the radio as its the one part of DMR I dont like, the way the codec mashes your voice up so that everyone sounds the same, its the one thing thats keeping me away from using DMR in any serious way, of the DMR radios I have tested the analogue side of the radio is compromised by the digital side so you end up with a radio thats not particularly good as an analogue or digital radio, hence I am interested to see if the price difference with this makes a real world difference. I have resisted suppliers offering me radios to make sure I can keep 100% objectivity on the reviews however it is good that you are being transparent about it Lewis as receiving a free radio is still technically being paid to review it :-) , funnily enough when I did ask 1 supplier for a free sample they agreed and then went on to try and charge me for it? LOL so decided just to buy them out of the money raised off the channel which only pays for a radio a month but is better than nothing. Looking forward to the next video :-)
@RingwayManchester6 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, I'll be doing the analogue and digital comparisons in the next video, I have to say both are pretty good, I'd say better than the MD-380. I know what you mean though. The MD-380 analogue audio isn't the best really. This is pretty good but you can make up your own mind :) I've had a few I've turned down because they don't provide programming cables and they say 'make it positive review' and I won't lie for anything especially when people tend to buy based on reviews. Quite a lot of orders went in ont he back of my RD-5R review so I have to be honest. Up to now though I can't fault the radio it's a belter. Cheers :) btw, whens your next one?

I have about 5 videos lined up to make but not got around to it as im busy sorting out my garage, got some nice radios in for review, some are very odd indeed :-) I will have to revisit DMR though as a work colleague is raving about his RD-5R, still no local DMR repeaters though :-( keep up the great work on the channel mate.

Very true. 16ch per zone is a pain as well whereas HD1 can be in zone mode (64 ch) or ‘all channels’ mode which allows continuous scrolling through every single channel.

@RingwayManchester6 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure, they're expensive and would probably require a license
@Elfnetdesigns6 жыл бұрын
The first question I want to ask is this: Do you really need a DMR repeater? If you do not have a lot of traffic then a DMR repeater may be a waste of money, when a regular FM analog repeater would suit your needs just fine. If so then HYT makes a pretty good one - rassbachcommunications.com/hytera-radios/rd982s.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwt5DXBRAtEiwAa3vyEi-dxLP4uKiHn6ZBpbIJi0y9WbBv_phwXWmDZkRooVlCV68cnwwbzBoCtLQQAvD_BwE You will need a proper license though for commercial or ham radio depending on where you are wanting to operate it. You cannot operate a digital repeater in the GMRS band in the US legally, Not yet anyways. A side note though is there are some modem kits you can buy cheap and install on Motorola CDM mobiles but those are flaky AF and only create a simplex repeater (Voice store and forward) and not a true duplexed repeater..

Hey, Do You know is it capable of transmitting digital data from computer like mototrbo radios? Not asking are compatible with mototrbo but are they have any implementation in that segment? regards
@RingwayManchester6 жыл бұрын
Hey I'm not sure what you mean?
@ElectronicNoobBlog6 жыл бұрын
Let me explain, on MotoTrbo radios You can assign radio ip address and connecting via usb cable and it will be visible as network card. After adding one line in routing table on computer, You can send "tcp/ip" packets between radios without any special software, encapsulation into DMR standard is done in radio itself being transparent to computer applications (no problem in sending e-mails or using IRC) but kind of slow. I'm wondering if there is a built in network interface allowing to sending data / telemetry between radios. On website i can see there is stated: 12.5KHz(data and voice):7K60FXW It get me curious because it mean it's capable of transmitting both voice and data on 12.5k channel.
