I've tried to comunicate with a friend who are 1km appart from me at a urban enviorement and the result was no good: we don't listen to each other at VHF, just at UHF. In analog mode we do listen each other loud and clear both in UHF and VHF. We use a Baofeng DM-1701 with openGD77 and the same TS and CC.

Heya again Lewis! Thanks for the long range test on the HD1! I have subscribed to your channel as I am also a HAM here in Dublin. I have been researching the HD1 for about 2 months and your previous review helped me decide that this is indeed the furure of HAM radio. I received my radio from Amazon UK last Wednesday, but haven't inputted any DMR code to it yet, just local 2m repeaters. I have been watching your videos for several months & like your W/T collection. I too have 4 Motorola i355's AND 2 Baofeng UV-5R's & a UV-82! Radio addicts LOL I may need a nudge to program this radio, I think I have watched ALL youtube's How To videos. Regards, EI2EBB

Hey John thanks for commenting! Haha good stuff on the collection! How cool are the i355's! Rare to get here in the UK and Ireland too. Stay tuned I have a handheld collection video coming soon although it may have to be done in 2 parts! ;)

Good test and yes, with DMR, it's all or nothing but the quality of the audio compared to analogue, at distance, is really impressive. Thanks for the test. 73

I purchased the Ailunce HD1 GPS model , I had to return the radio due to the short battery life , the standard HD1 battery life is fine . I turned the GPS off & the radio still drained the battery in no time , I even swapped the battery & the radio was still power hungry .

Not seen this radio before. Seems a new make every week. Cannot knock the cost at which they can knock these out. Good video, sound and lighting spot on.

Thanks for the new HD1 video Lewis! As always, great stuff. It would be interesting, for your own curiosity, to use one of the free on line path profile calculators to see exactly what the RF path is/should be like especially on the longer range tests like this one. Quite often the "computer says no" when in fact the RF path does just about scrape through! Great work, 73 Brian EI8EJB

I'll have to look in to doing that Brian! Cheers as always! :)

I have done this with Hts and Mobile to my house. The computer says "absolutely NOT", but I get contact, even with canyons, forests, and mountains in between radios. There is a reason that they call it F.M. ,because it is F-ing Magic :)

Hi Lewis! Finally subscribed after being a watcher of your videos for quite some time. You have an excellent channel, with great video quality and interesting content. However, you are directly to blame for my continued and baffling habit of buying more radios and accessories than one person could ever need! Watch a video and soon after, another radio arrives. It's out of control!! :) And also, through your channel, you have introduced me to several other great UK radio KZbin channels. It's not helping with my CRAP (Compulsive Radio Acquisition Problem) either! Please keep up the great work, and enjoy the new house mate, nothing better than coming home to a place that you can call your own! 73's from Adam VK3SWL.

Hey Adam, thanks for the kind words! I'm glad I inspired you to get more radios! I'll be doing a collection video soon so stay tuned! Best 73 for now :)

Have seen and read a number of favourable reviews for this new brand from the Retevis stable. Have decided to take the plunge and see how it performs out and about as well as with pi-star around the house. Many thanks for your interesting and varied videos. Great video! The audio coming out of the TYT seems muffled. I've read other reports where people complain about low audio transmitted from the HD1. The speaker in the HD1, however, is no slouch.

I’ve not had a problem, I found the audio quite clear with plenty of gain. I did order directly from Retevis, perhaps others are getting old stock? In the latest firmware you can also increase the mic gain if you prefer.

Many thanks for your time reviewing Hd1 radio! This review was six years ago, do you think Retevis have fixed ongoing issues since then? Do you have most recent review/testing videos on this hd1? I am thinking of buying one but dwelling between hd1 and hd2? I've seen Hd2 are not as clean radios but have more functions.... I would be very thankful if you could give me your professional advice? Kind regards

Being able to see the HD1 screen when you were in the car shows how good the screen is unless it is in bright light. Your studio lighting is excellent for when you are talking to the camera. I hope you can find a way to change the lighting for closeups when the screen needs to be visible, since it was quite washed out in your previous video. (Video &sound quality are superb, by the way.) Mike, N9KHZ
@RingwayManchester6 жыл бұрын
Hey Mike, yeah you're absolutely right, I use a better camera now so I can turn up the exposure a bit and the lights down so the screen is easier to see.

Are you concerned using a 10W portable regarding RF energy near your head. I am reading mixed things, and also realize that Retevis may overestimate the power. Just wondering your opinion.
@ElectronicNoobBlog5 жыл бұрын
I was checking this topic while ago when i got 25W lexien, and i would not be afraid. Only real danger that was proven is damage to retina in eyes. Here is paper baking that up -> www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14628311 But being realistic there is difference between sleeping near to TX station working 24/hours than using 10W radio couple times (until battery die) on weekly trips. That's my personal opinion, but after reading research i 'm not afraid using it.

Good stuff as always! I'm reallyu considering getting one of those radios myself. If it had VHF as well I probably would've bought one already to be fair. Still seems like a smashing bit of kit though. I'm a bit torn between the HD1 and the TYT MD-2017, which does VHF/UHF analog and DMR
@RingwayManchester6 жыл бұрын
Yeah you should seriously get one, i can't comment on the 2017 as I've never tried one, the antenna fault put me off it! 73 for now
@H3adcrash6 жыл бұрын
Yeah the 2017 has its pros and cons for sure. The HD1 does seem like a much better mix of functions and features. On a slightly unrelated sidenote I can mention than I'm about to order a SenHaiX 6900 network radio. It seems to be the newest more rugged looking model available, and it's very reasonably priced. I can get back to you about it if you're interested. It costs way less than the RT4. 73 SA7BHV
