I'm a left-handed guitar player I play with the strings upside down like Albert King I play a straight A minor and I go up to I hit the F and I hit the g and I go back to the D with an open G then I go back with the aid of the G with the c to the B and I go from the a to the D to the e and then I do the hokey pokey and I just turn it all around that sounds great

In '78 I was 19 y/o. I lived at the music store. The day it was released my buddy worked there. He says "Come here man, you won't believe this sh*t"💩So he drops the needle and blasts it over the stores PA system. No truer words were ever spoken. He knew I was a Hendrix and Gilmour fan. I'll never forget that day, was it yesterday? I can't remember. I sat there through the whole album. Best debut in rock history. Then he says, "that is one guitar player"! I rolled my eyes, I was broke. He says "pay me when you can" he knew I wasn't leaving without it. Still have it somewhere in my basement. Surely ragged and scratched to hell. Besides the genius of Eruption this turned into my favorite song on the album. Those were the days man.

Not too bad, and I know these videos are tough to make. But I just had to kind of chime in a little. I know if you gave it another listen-or even slowed down parts to get it better idea-you would hear parts that are very different from how you’re playing them. And most probably would not know, until learning it themselves with more focus on all the little details. Not to be too picky, but I just wanted to shed some light on a few parts for people that really want to get all those little details just right. First of all, you have to tune at least a half step down, or to the album if you are ever going to play any early Van Halen- besides Hot for Teacher. Just takes a second, and it sounds very different in standard. Anytime Eddie goes back to that main intro, riff, in some form or another, there’s no slide on the A string to C, on the turnarounds where he triggers the flanger. Some are a quick palm mute on the open E… before the three note turnaround with a flanger and some pinch harmonics. But most of the time it’s a muffled G, E string third fret. So got to have your foot ready, on the Flanger, every three note turnaround throughout the whole song-if you really want to get it. Or if you want to run around a little more, and not be tied to the pedalboard, you could leave the phaser on a little and get a pretty similar effect. On that bridge with harmonics, just listen closely, slow down to 50% here on KZbin, to get the right patterns. He only uses a slight whammy on the third set of harmonics. Then with the solo, make sure you really got the B and E string tuned up well-together. A lot of you may know, Ed would detune the B string on songs where he does a lot of double stop on the G and B, like with runnin’ with the devil and others. You don’t wanna get too bogged down with all the different tempered tuning Edward do. But the B string, that’s a very easy adjustment, and very essential. And there’s not very much tremolo picking in the solo, just a few spots here and there. Although, Eddie does a little more live. But it’s much more subtle than you are playing here. And the last lick of the solo, down in the 17th position, it’s very different from what we see here. People can look online, or listen closely. And there’s also an open E ringing out throughout the lick. Much trickier lick than it might sound like at first. I didn’t listen after that. I’m being very picky, snd I’m one that loves to take the time, and has the time, to listen closely. I know most people probably don’t. Just wanted to add a little bit to this video. Thank you! 😝🤘🏻🎸🇺🇸

The 3rd & 4th notes of the opening lick is actually a C & A from the B string & G string...

I tried for years to play that “A minor “ chord in the man riff…it sounds like he is picking it twice…Come to find out,it’s a short slap back delay,with one repeat,so it slaps back as you hit that A chord….I stuck a short delay in front of the amp on my AxeFXIII,and there it was…but it’s gotta be in front of the amp…He did that all over that record…Just sharing that little tip that I stumbled across….Your tone is great on this though..The Fractal stuff sounds amazing..Would love to see your presets…

Appreciate the effort of anyone to make a whole video to teach something, but unfortunately there are a ton of mistakes in the riff man.
@stevea248810 ай бұрын
The intro is wrong. The first four notes are 0 2 1 2 on the A minor. On the second time thru, he made a mistake on the pattern of the F chord. Its 0 1 on the E string 1 1 on the B string and then the last 2 times its the same first pattern. When you do the G part the third note is G on the 6 string not the open higher G string. I've seen very few teach that mistake in the pattern the second time thru. He plays it the same every time live, so I assume it was a mistake but sounded cool so they left it.
@heyjarrod10 ай бұрын
Not sure what style of notation you have there. But that, 1, would /should be on the first fret B string.
@heyjarrod10 ай бұрын
Eddie never made any mistakes in the studio. That’s how he played it live in the studio-always changing and improvising. None of these songs were notated or charted out. They just played. Of all the great things he did on those albums, you think that was a ‘mistake?’ As for the last part, talking about the G or open G, I wasn’t clear on what you were referring to there.

Marty, your intro has one note wrong on the arpeggio, you have A=0 D=2 G=2 D=2 it should be A=0 D=2 B=1 G=2 try it that way along with the recording, it sounds right. Still just holding the Am chord.. Let me know what you think?
@Ranch5150SkinWalker8 ай бұрын
I hear it done both ways. Early VH may have done the minor thir(c) on the b string but when you hear him play it live especially Hagar era I hear him do it like I play. I think I've morphed it so many ways over the decades. Lol. Either way is good and gets the job done 😎🤟🏻

Sometimes, E, sometimes G, not both. Or not that I have noticed yet. I’ve been really going over this song quite a bit the past few weeks for an upcoming gig. So hard to hear a lot of the details. So it’s kind of an ongoing process… picking up something new, even after decades of playing and listening. But I love the process, when you got it down and are just getting all the fine details just for yourself, really. And for for a great challenge. 😝🤘🏻🎸🔥

Killer Jackson you have there! You are playing this wrong from the very start. Even your tab on the upper left corner is wrong. The third note is on the first fret, not the second fret. Also, Eddie doesn’t slide into the c to b part where he kicks on the flanger. He hits the low E slightly palm muted and then goes c to b on the A string. I wondered why it didn't sound right when you played it, and that is why.

I have got the exact same guitar, nice little axe for an Indonesian build isn't it?!? I just change hardware for Gotoh one and sand the transition between the gloss finish on the body and the satin finish of the neck... It was horribly annoying for me!
@Ranch5150SkinWalker2 жыл бұрын
I love it,but haven’t played it enough to get bothered by the neck gloss/satin thing yet. Good idea though! I love the color and the tone. The fret markers are cool. 😎🙌
@dimebagtribute2 жыл бұрын
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker Yes you're right, that's a pretty good neck thru Jackson! At first I was a bit anxious about the country of origin but in fact the work they did on these guitars is quite excellent... The problem with the 2 type of finishing (gloss on body and satin on neck) is that there is a gap between them at the "heel joint" due to the thickness different of the two. You can clearly feel this difference in the thickness and it drove me mad😄 So I sanded this area to get rid of this ennoying feeling I had when I hit the upper frets, today this guitar is a little gem with an undeniable build quality and the Jackson comfort you can expect from their US guitars but for 3 times less!!
