New types of electric aircraft will soon bring air services much closer to where we live and work. But the advanced air mobility revolution will require a lot of new infrastructure, such as vertiports for eVTOL aircraft and short takeoff and landing runways to connect smaller communities. Experts are laying the ground work for how cities can prepare for moving people and cargo by air in more efficient and sustainable ways.

We should expect to park eVTOL very close together in city 'carparks' - perhaps the 'carparks' will have moving trolleys to shift them from a take-off/landing pad to a charging point. We should expect to see them parked millimetres apart. So 100 parking spaces in the same space as a 100 car spaces. As they will be made of carbon-fibre, they will have a lower weight than an EV and a similar-sized battery. They should use the same plugs as EVs. The roofs of large railway stations and large carparks will likely be ideal. They are likely to have, or get, major electrical infrastructure.

Hi, good work, you did the homework and distinguished yourself from the lazy people by doing this, there are many competing developers, the difference between them lies in the first company, which is to complete a plan that is more enlightened and wiser than all the others, and the idea of completing a future model plan never occurred to anyone, it depends on a rare team of creative and outstanding people, among them one person is the most experienced in several fields and he calls it the key to the game

Throughput is lower than a Taxi. The 10 minutes I gain in the air I lose in the queue... It's inefficient and unproven. Safety seems not up to regular aviation standards and why should a city develop this instead of a tram or metro? Not only that but the target seems to be north America where people live far away from everything and where noise downtown doesn't bother residents, as there are none. In Asia or Europe this will be outright prohibited

Cheaper than an uber, hey. I just googled London heliport landing fees "Landings are currently £550 +VAT. Also After 15 minutes on the ground, the helicopter has a £300 parking charge levied on it". I expect their targeting angel investors who know no better.

London city has 1650meter paved runway. That is not stol. And every multiunit building is an obvious landing place for a light EVTOL. You just have to avoid the legacy thinking of making it 4-6 seats like existing helicopters. Single seat. That way vehicle weight can be less than 300kg with corresponding minimal noise footprint. A good design could even be used on the ground in urban areas. No more disruptive than a few seconds of chainsaw or motorcycle revving. A deep swoosh, 1 g surplus acceleration and no run up. No idle. Not like a clumsy helicopter. I'm concerned by the quality of judgment of the people in charge. Or lack of same.

@Will Swift good question. you'd need automatic charging locations as many places as possible. Designated landing spot roofs could also have stalls where they park and charge.

@Will Swift you'd be wise to consult me, yes. Don't expect to employ me full time though. I seem to be able to see what should be trivial to everyone yet escapes most everyone for decades despite me pointing it out.

The helipad they show at 3:51 is actually Brooklyn Bridge park. NYC already has plans to reduce existing helicopter traffic, I think there is zero chance these new vehicles will be allowed to land on the surface.

If you have seen The Fifth Element, Bruce Willis shows us what the future holds. Stinkier, noiser cities where people will hole up with their electronic devices and have to get away periodically to the bucolic countryside.

Might want to revisit that now. JOBY bought Uber Elevate and is getting close to Type Certification. They will launch next year.

@@BlueEyed888 You may be right. Yet I am troubled by a single prop failure cascading into the catastrophic event that destroyed one of Joby's prototypes. See the NTSB report. It's a complex design. If Joby can pull this off it will be an impressive feat. We will soon know, won't we.
