To take out the creep of the HW97 Rekord trigger unit is a 5 minute job. I think the muzzle end on the HW looks better and it is really easy to fit a moderator should you desire so. By the way the 97 has a "beartrap" mechanism as well, you cannot pull the trigger before closing the cocking lever. Here in Europe the TX prices are insane, you can get a HW98 and a HW97 for one TX, so thats what i did😁

@cheshirebowman4465 Жыл бұрын
The weihrauch hw97 does not have a bear trap. It's a trigger blocking system. Not the same as a bear trap. A bear trap locks onto the compression chamber. If the trigger sear on the weihrauch is set too fine it can still take your thumb off. I've got two 97s.ive had it happen, luckily my thumb was out of the way. Personally I think the 97s are way better.

@@cheshirebowman4465 I had the same happen to me, also while my thumb wasn't in the breech. As everyone does I tried to get my trigger as light as possible, put it down with a tiny bump and SNAP. I agree about them being the better gun, with the TX you're paying a lot for some shiny blue metal and a nice stock.

Hello gentlemen, Thank you for your review of these two iconic underlever spring air rifles. I am lucky enough to own both. I purchased my 97K in the nickel barrel, black moulded stock format. I wasnt keen on the plastic stock of my 97K, so made my own laminated walnut/ash stock. I had a VMach tuning kit installed, its fantastic. I love it. My TX200 HC, just sublime. I couldnt go anywhere near the quality of making that stock. Everytime I handle it, my knees go weak. It goes in the same place on my cheek every time. The blueing is jaw dropping and trigger is gorgeous. For me, theres just one or two subtle differences, neither here nor there of both these iconic units. I love the bare bones of both of them. Theyre both genius in there own right. I dont think theres a best. To me, theyre both fantastic and rather than to wonder which is best, I'll put that energy into shooting and enjoying them both. Price wise, its simple. The TX will cost more to manufacture, so itll be more expensive to buy. The decision is simple. Quality costs-end of. If you want quality, it'll have to be purchased. Nothing worth having is free. If anyone fancies one, go and buy one. You won't be disappointed! That was a great, honest review, thank you.

I own a Walnut 200 Mk111 and a 97KT. Both are short stroked and run at 11ft/lb. There is nothing between them out to 45 yards. There is a reason that the standard of engineering on the 97 is not as high as that on the TX. Price. Compare the brackets that take the front stock screw bolts. On the TX it is a machined aluminium one piece bracket. It lines up perfectly with the stock holes every time. On the 97 it is a bent metal strip, that moves about and does not line up so readily. The anti bear trap on the TX are machined units, whereas on the HW it is two pieces of pressed steel and a spring. The blueing on the TX is much deeper and glossier than on the HW. People when reviewing these rifles often overlook the barrels. HW use their own, which is superb. The TX uses a match grade, choked Lothar Walther. Reads better from a marketing point of view. Aesthetically they are both high quality rifles. Only internally can you see where HW save money. I am sure HW is very capable of over engineering the 97, in the same way that the TX is over engineered. That would only make them as expensive as the TX. Why fix something that is not broken.

I have both the HW97 Stainless and TX200 HC. Both are great guns and as accurate as each other. The TX borrowed so much from the HW77. However, I find the HW97 front heavy where the weight of the TX is more central. For ease of service though the TX wins hands down!

I’m lucky enough to have a walnut tx200 and a blue laminate 97 and I agree the blueing on the tx is beautiful and the right handed stock fits perfectly and the clicking of the anti-bear trap doesn’t bother me, but a plastic button to release It isn’t good-looking enough for the rest of the gun. The blue laminate stock is stunning but not as comfortable, and the push button on the cocking arm becomes second nature, you don’t even notice it’s there, the loading port is bigger and easier to use and they are as accurate as each other. I love my tx200 and was lucky enough to get mine before the price rises. If I had to buy one now I would choose the hw97👍🏼

Can't really do a comparison when one is nearly double the price of the other. I have the 97K with a TBT Maxi tuning kit which is only £49.95 and it has made an good gun into an awesome gun so I rally can't see how the air arms is £500 better what so ever in any way.

The tx200 US walnut is £1059 in the UK. The HW97KT walnut (most expensive version of the 97 models) is £690 So yes, only £270 difference, but is the TX 30% better for that price? The answer to that has to be no. The Tx is possibly 10% better out the box, but AA are ripping you off at that price. Anyway, if you’ve got the money and you want one, then great. IMO I’d get a used TX200 and buy a GRS stock if I was going to spend that kind of money.

Just a thought. I have two weihrauch hw97k one made in 1998 and one made in 2001. You would not believe how much better the older ones are. If you see one, buy it. You will see it in the racks as a weihrauch with the silencer bit sticking out further than the cocking lever. Much easier to tune with it's 25 mm piston instead of 26 mm.

The HW 97 does not have a 'bear trap', I'm happy to say. But it DOES have a sliding "ANTI bear trap", blocking the trigger while remaining hidden in the stock. For hunters: Its underlever lock up is much more solid (for fitting a sling) than on the TX. On my scale the 97K Laminate is plus 4 Kilos unscoped. Box movers: plse know your ware !

I bought the full-length TX200 .177" in walnut earlier this year. I'm a retired engineer and chose the Air Arms for two reasons: 1. I watched a load of strip & rebuild KZbin videos and the Air Arms looks easier than the Weihrauch. 2. I have owned an AA S400 carbine for over 20 trouble-free years. I considered the Pro Sport and if I were hunting with it I would probably go that way. I am actually only shooting targets and the sharper edges on the Pro Sport cocking lever swung me towards the TX. Its a dozen shots while hunting verses five times that number on a session at the range. It was with a deep breath that I shelled-out for the TX. Its a major purchase for a pensioner. I have since fitted a TBT tuning kit and all doubts are blown away every time I visit the range. I do like the look of the Weihrauch, though. I'm a sucker for blue laminate. 😀

Not a fair or reasonable comparison, the AA Ultimate springer is twice the price of a standard 97. You could buy a standard 97 Sporter, have it professionally tuned, fit a custom laminate or walnut stock and still have enough left over to buy a sleeve of pellets. And then you would have a gun at least as good as the AA.

I emailed Claire through Air Arms. I advised her they needed to put the TX200 action in a chassis stock like the S510 tactical. This stock and action should be matte black and include the same type of moderator as the S510 tactical. The m-loc in the stock could be used for an offset adjustable hamster, that would still enable cocking with the under leaver. This would breathe new life into the TX200. You would also be able to use the m-loc to mount a laser, or flashlight. This should be easy, low hanging fruit for Air Arms. But alas..........Nobody listens to me. They build this instead.........

Great video guy's.. very informative and entertaining 👌👍🤘 my girlfriend calls it Gun Porn when I watch videos like this.. 😃😃lol.. so thanks for the Gun Porn guys.. 😂😂lol.. I got the Air Arms TX200 mk3 in Walnut.. like you both said the HW 97k is right up there with the Air Arms.. I would like a HW 97K but there's no point in having 2 underlevers is there.. thats like having 2 kettles that do the same thing but one is a bit more expensive and looks a little bit better..😂😂 🤘👍👌

One of the things NO ONE IS MENTIONING when it comes to stocks (wood vs synthetic) is the following: the screws that joint the metal body to the stock will hold much better with the synthetic stock version. It'll take many more -a whole lot more - pellets to shoot before these have to be (re)tightened, compared to the same model's wooden stock version. I have experienced this with Diana N-Tec 34 model(s) as well as with no name chinese. To whomever it may concern, feel free to reward me with some $ for this info.

First of all, yes the TXs are nice but massively overpriced, buy yourself a used 97 do what l did buy a Walnut CS500 my stock and a 2016 nickel 97 cost less than 600, the gun had already been tuned at Ratworks, they are the best that Weihrauch do,

@bckup.1 airarms fanboy😆 I've shot both and still prefer the HW. There's no need to tune anything. If you know how to shoot a springer ,ok, the HW has a bit of a twang, but you shoot the air arms in the woods and it's got a bigger crack ,almost sounds like .22lr going off ,shot both back in the late 80s and will always go for the HW ,and before you say I am a fanboy ,I owned a air arms s410 for years and loved it

@bckup.1 dude I've been shooting and around rifles for 40 years , with the right pellet and hold "artillery hold" the HWs can group as well as a fair few PCPs ,like Pete said in the video ,he dont shoot springers alot and the rifles in the test as not even been ran in yet ,now go suck an egg 👍

Nope. The engineering on tx200 is superior. Both rifles have the same accuracy, but the tx is better in terms of type of construction. The tx200 and the 97k are the best Field Target springers ever.

NOT a fair test! Why not compare using the HW 97 kt beech stock with the variable butt, thumb hole and other features? You've chosen the, arguably, the worst model of the HW 97 NO BIAS THERE THEN.
