This is by far one of the most helpful informative video. It's exactly what I was looking for I'm going for my Air Brakes License in Ontario Canada next week, I've been spending hours trying to memorize everything step by step for Semi Trucks. It's taking a lot of time, I have to keep saying it out loud as I'm reading and putting the note book down pretending I'm doing the step by step as to what I would do as I'm doing it. The Governor settings Cut-out and Cut-in is one of the most difficult inspection to understand.

This is a perfect demonstration of someone who's been given a basic idea of air brakes, but really doesn't understand the system, or how the test should be conducted.

I don't think much of the negative comments because this is a pre-trip inspection, not a full DOT. Yes I know there are different standards for a 3 tank and a 5 tank air system but drivers don't know the difference. Great Job on the tutorial!

Good video and one I will keep on a personal playlist. I'm in AZ training now and had my Air Brake Handbook out while she went over each section of the air brake test. The only part she skipped, bc it was a school bus and not a tractor-trailer, were the testing of the trailer service and spring brakes. For those who are thinking about becoming a professional driver, do it. I'm leaving the kitchen work I've been doing for 12 yrs bc there is very little growth, its virtually a dead end job, and kitchen work makes it difficult to provide for your family efficiently. I also acquired heavy equipment tickets prior, but added the AZ training to vastly expand possible opportunities. I cannot wait to complete my training, but it all comes down to the road test and air brake practical.

@metrotruck in the State of California you would of had an Automatic failure. When doing the warning light test it comes on between 55 and 75 psi . You are supposed to stop stepping on the breaks the minute you see the warning light on the dashboard. You kept going . The cola test or Otherwise known ass the air break test needs to be done at 100%. No mistakes out loud.

Thank you for the video. Just 1 question, should we not test the emergancy break? You have to leave on neutral. Pump the breaks till the emergancy breaks activates itself after reaching 30 psi or less. Am i right?

William Zamora yes you are right...she missed that I believe
@jimradix66848 жыл бұрын
so, you have to do some checks twice? (air leak, low pressure warning are done on two if the videos)
@missle258 жыл бұрын
Jim Radix you do NOT have to do the tests twice. The reason probably is, is because she has the bus running the whole time. As long as the bus is running the governor will always supply air to a tank that's low on air pressure.

air brake pressure is as to stall speed on an airplane, both with a warning horn, if they drop below a certain value you could potentially end up dead

Proper air brake test is SAFB, static, applied, fan down, build up. SAFB is industry standard. Whole practical exam should take less than 5 minutes.

@eat_a_dick_trudeau5 жыл бұрын
I work for a company that has quite a few trucks with air brakes, and, I have to say, I have never seen anyone do anything remotely close to this during their pre-trip, and, believe me, I have been watching, as i want to get my DZ. No looking under the truck. No draining of tanks. No measuring. This is like a days work before you even set out. I suspect 99% of drivers never do any of this after they pass the test.
@eat_a_dick_trudeau5 жыл бұрын
Also, who is going to get out on the ground, and roll around under a truck with a measuring tape when its raining, muddy, or -40 degrees outside? I pray my test is on a dry day.

@kingeris1657 Жыл бұрын
You never told them to release their break first. Never pump your breaks with you tractor valve engaged or you will compress the breaks. Also the vehicle should be off not running.
@ericshepherd90537 жыл бұрын
what why secs for build up time what country is this?
@Ttowndirty7 жыл бұрын
Because it tells you if the pump is working properly. If you have to redline the bus to build up minimum pressure in the allowed time then the pump is not good enough for the road and air pressure will not be maintained for everyday driving.
