I am having trouble with units in calculating exit speed of projectile mass m lbs and air gun pressure P psi using your equation V=sqrt(2LPA/m). Can you show your full calculation so I can see where I made my mistake. Thanks.

nice video, I have a question, to calculate predicted distance did you use actually velocity (118 m/s) or predicted velocity (406m/s)

isn't there also counter pressure of 1 atm against the pressure behind the projectile? isn't the pressure in the equation supposed to be a pressure difference instead of just the pressure of the tank?

Just found this channel. Fabulous! Your subjects are interesting and you give great explanations. Too bad I'm late to the party, it looks like crazybuilders.com is gone. Don't stop doing & teaching, you have the gift of communicating well. You da man!

For the final velocity equation, is the pressure measured in Pascal ? Also, can i use that equation to find the pressure needed, as i know the velocity needed ?
@ZandrichMynhardt4 жыл бұрын
Pressure measurement is dependent on whichever system you used for input into the equation.

What has more drag and what will travel farther a potatoe, or a potato? Great video, liked and subscribed. On the Yorktown we fired 16-inch guns around 60-degree elevation at Jap ships over the horizon, clear out of sight. We relied on our submarine spotters to call in the coordinates and we would get a hit on the 2nd or 3rd round. Air drag is a function of the square of the velocity, so you have to get an average depending on your intended range, so it will change and has to be custom calculated; as well as the ballistic coefficient changes with velocity and it also has to be averaged to the intended range. The trajectory of a truer parabola would be on the surface of the moon with no atmosphere, but still, it is not a true parabola as gravity acts in one direction only, towards the center of the masses. The reason a bullet fired at less than a 45-degree angle is that as it travels up to the apex of its trajectory, it is a parabola as the bullet is being slowed down by gravity. Past the apex, gravity is not slowing down the bullet, but accelerating it faster towards the Earth, so the parabola is now more like an ellipse, so the lower angle takes advantage of the higher velocity on the path of the parabola and past the apex, the bullet has slowed down that it drops much faster. I am really interested in your cannons specifications. Thank you for the great video and the formulas.

If I were to use a gas cannon how would that compare to air?

so for Area is it the Area of the Barrel or the chamber ??
@icuppu24 жыл бұрын
The smallest area, which would be the muzzle in case you have a choked barrel.

Nice data, ive never seen a video like this about air cannons, i think i might link this at the end of one of my episodes if you don't mind. Check out my show and you will see what i mean. We love the air cannon haha.. I'm subscribing now.
