How does it effect the water in the tank?

The tank will draw in moisture from the air every reload and retain that inside the tank. The filter helps strain out the moisture when using your air tools to prevent damaging them. You should also install a bleeder/drain at the bottom of your tank. This way you can drain out the water that are inside the tank. I also have a video on this. Hope this helps!

Another mod you can do grab a extended tank drain and drain regularly or leave open since water looks for a quick path

The bleeder valve shouldn’t leak. When flipped, It should close by itself.

Don't put the separator so close to the compressor. Moisture separator works only when the air sufficiently cools down. You need 20ft + between the compressor and moisture separator. Please do minimum research.
