Why is my air conditioner not cooling? Here's why your Goodman air conditioner runs but does not blow cold air. On this video I show how the repair could be as simple as a capacitor to get your Goodman air conditioner to blow cold air again. Although this is a Goodman air conditioner, this repair will fix most AC units of different brands.

your way of testing the start cap is easier, I thought a person had to remove the resister first, I never knew how to resolder it back on, because I never had a soldering iron near by.

On a 102° Day my AC started blowing warm air that night! Went out to my unit, the fan wasn’t moving but I could hear that the unit was on. Turned it off waited a few minutes turned it back on and my fan was moving but it was blowing warm air. It was a miserable night so after watching various videos almost everyone was replacing the capacitor. So I figured it’s only $20 I have a dude scheduled in a few days that will surely tax my ass on the $$$$. Got a new capacitor installed it and presto blinko my AC is back on freeze! I also took dish soap and cleaned the unit with my hose too…actually might be cooler than before. Cancelled my appointment, nothing is better than a simple fix actually working.

@lex vance I'm sure you know this already but if that hard start cap blows up it's usually because the relay goes bad. I believe in taking all the wires off of the capacitor because I tested one bad then retested it when I took it out and it was good. I didn't short it out though so that's possibly why it tested bad.

When you put back the wires on capacitor, can they be interchange? Or it should be put on the right one

It has to be put back to the right terminals or it won't work. Fan wires have to go to fan, compressor wires have to go to Herm and common wires have to go to C. Thank you so much for watching!

So, I passed my EPA exam after only having 3 days to study. And a two day course. I got a card and was certified. But didn't pass all 4 only passed the core and part two. Made a 68 on the other two. My company made everyone take the exam at the last minute. It was stressful. My question is, so this is still a certified EPA card? Even though I didn't pass the other two exams? Is this all an employee requires? I plan on taking the other 2 exam in the future. Just wanted your thoughts.

It's been so long since I've taken it (2005) I don't know how it is now days. I got my universal certification back then and haven't had to deal with it since. Now that there's so many refrigerants I don't know what's what.

How do you immediately know what the tonnage is?

It's in the model #. 18 is 1.5 ton. 24 is a 2 ton. 30 is a 2.5 ton. It goes up by 6. So, 36 is a 3 ton. So on and so on.

My guess is the rotary compressors need that extra boost. Those compressors aren't like the regular Copeland scroll compressors.
