This Zero Breeze Mark II unit is pretty much the best option that we've found for DC powered air conditioning for a van. This means that you can run it straight off your power supply, without having to turn on your inverter or plug into shore power.

Advice. Consider separating the exhaust and fresh air intake on the outside of the van more. When they are close like yours you will be mixing hot air in with the fresh making it much less efficient.
@Bellasafari
@Bellasafari Жыл бұрын
Actually doesn’t matter as the intake is on the other side by the cold air out put. (Otherwise the company would suggest separation or the design would be different)

Mine freezes me out of my Nissan NV 200. We love it. Also. In our small van, we use “sleep mode“, and so the air conditioner only uses about 140 watts!! Awesome. Of course if you’re trying to cool down a bigger space, sleep mode won’t be sufficient. I am in Central Florida. We use it when sleeping at night. It’s awesome. I wouldn’t waste my time trying it during the daytime, I’ve got better things to do, getting outside and doing stuff. I don’t wanna be crammed up in my van during the day

ADVICE: Use a drip pan with the Zero Breeze. Water does leak from the unit with movement. I use a plastic lid from a storage bin - works great.

It's about as expensive as buying the batteries and solar setup for a full size ac unit. $800.00. $1200 full solar 24v-48v system you could build yourself and that cost is including the a.c. unit too. Easly get 5-7 hours per full charge using a 5000 btu a.c. js.

@David D you are so correct. The expectation should just be for cooling a person off as direct cooling for like when you sleep as during the day you're going to be out and about and using someone else's A/C as a van lifer (Planet Fitness, Wegmans, etc). For me personally I will have a MideaU project coming up so can't wait to get that rolling and vlog about it.

Heat rises and the cold air sinks, so for better results the ac should be as high as you can place it. Also you should give as much room around the vents as possible to allow good air flow. This set up is less reliable and will take longer to cool the van and use more energy.

Hey I’m a trucker. I think this will be perfect for me. I have a 3000 watt pure sine inverter hooked to battery bank of truck with 4/0 copper cables. Fuse 200amp on battery side and 200 amp(anl) on inverter side. Do you sell basic package( no battery). My truck has an opti idle system, to where if it senses low voltage it kicks the truck on to prevent low battery voltage, so I think this will definitely help me during hot summer nights in Texas when I don’t want to idle the truck all the time for a/c. What do you think? Thanks

flex is your worst enemy for efficient air movement.. flex creates so much resistance for normal air handlers nevermind a micro Air Conditioner... to make matters worse you aren't even running the full size diameter of the outlet and choked it down to 3". Installing some solid duct.. even PVC pipe will reduce the static pressure and allow the tiny fan to more fully output its rated cfm.

Need a big battery bank. My Hi-Lo camping trailer has just a single 12 VDC battery ~50 A-hr capacity, so the compressor could only run for 2 hours. I haven't mounted a roof AC, though wired for it (120 VAC outside connector) since few state park sites in CA have electrical hookup, and those that do cost $55/night w/ 1 yr waiting list. I'm thinking of a 120 VAC portable AC (like restaurants use) when needed, but usually camp only in areas which get cool at night.

How do you turn it on or off,,, remote works? Is it enough to cool off the van during the summer? Having electric wire work and punching holes on the van is a commitment, then it would be better to install permanent AC rather than this portable. I have portable which I could just bring it up to the front seat and have exhaust and intake ducts facing outside the window, it works great every time and won't take any space. I can't seem to do the electric power installation.

you would then be blowing cold air from inside to the outside, lowering the efficiency, its a 2 part unit, when cooling the inside it draws air from the inside to the front, cools it, then blows it back inside, the heat then goes to the rear of the unit, draws air from outside, heats it, then blows the heat outside.

I wonder if it could work better if the unit was taken apart so that the compressor could be more thermally isolated from the evaporator. In other words, turning it into a micro mini-split.

@blairpomeroy3302 3 жыл бұрын
@@ytJnC you could easily add insulation around the rear to stop any of the heat from radiating into the inside, but pulling it to bits probably won't work out, I could be wrong though, I'm not an expert, but it would probably be like dismantling a fridge and extending it so it throws the heat outside rather than to the rear, I wouldn't mess with the gas inside it myself.

I’m definitely gonna check one of these out for my modular conversion I’m doing. A note about that duct coming out of the unit providing your air, that harsh 180 degree turn might hurt your airflow and efficiency. Ok .. I watch a lot of these videos & have started to be kinda critical. I have a 10,000 btu window air conditioning unit with a compressor that runs on 120volt ac and have installed it in a mini van to test its ability to cool the van. Even with that unit I had to put a pop up tent over the van and black out the windshield to get my daytime temperature to be acceptable. Night time was more easier for the unit as the radiant heat from the sun was no longer a factor. The unit featured in this video claims to be a quarter of the btu and never mentions a compressor... see how light it is when he picks it up? I’m willing to wager this is a peltier device. A simple internet search will show you how they work. If you are serious about van life this unit may not give you the desired effect.

@ytJnC

I think it’s that way due to the packaging of the hardware, but you are correct. It’s important to have separation between the input/output. It’s one of the reasons why this unit doesn’t do so well in non ducted demos. Ideally the ports on the outside need to have more separation but perhaps the proximity to the wall prevented routing the ducts.

With one zero Breeze it's possible to run it 24 hours a day with 800 walts of solar and a small battery bank of 400 amps at 24 volts or 10 killawalts And keep your sleeping area comfortable temperatures Now if you use 2 zero Breeze it works way better Just need 20 to 25 killawalts of 24 volt That's just 4 or 5 eg4 server rack batteries And 1200 walts of solar that is the maximum that will fit on a extended high roof promaster van 200 Walt rich solar 24 volt panels Can use bigger panels just lose the stealth look of the smaller panels Van has to have installation and the only installation that will work is 2 inches of spray foam close cell on the ceiling floor and walls and foam insulation over all windows and some kind of partition to block of the front of the van There is always compromise that have to be made

Wouldn’t it be more beneficial to have the intake taking from the hottest air in the van so at the top, then outputting the cool air and then have one pip running outside for the “exhaust”
@rugbeaters1
@rugbeaters1 Жыл бұрын
If you did that then the van would have a negative air pressure and would suck in hot air were ever it could It sounds like a good idea just not practical on the real world Don't ask how I learned about it lol

I would never put vents near the bottom, beware of exhaust fumes near by. Put near the top far away from exhaust fumes of your van and where other cars may emit fumes.

Like others said, this device is a 1K personal a/c. It will not get close to cooling your entire van, even if its website claims it will. I have a 144" MB Sprinter High Roof and it is only useful if you're standing in front of it, would not recommend or buy again.

Your car AC is 10000 BTU, large vans with rear AC are in the 50000 BTU range; just for comparison.
@tdgdbs1
@tdgdbs1 3 жыл бұрын
@George Planter I am sure you have a bit of knowledge to google it for yourself. Cars and vans are poorly insulated so the quoted BTUs required for cooling is much higher. You can also easily convert BTUs to watts, the difference is belt driven vs. electric motor driven compressors. Feel like an idiot yet? Don't dip in unknown water and do some research before comment for the world to see.

It was a poor decision to install the ducting right on the metal body panel. This panel will absorb energy radiated from the sun, heat up, and heat your cool air moving through the duct. It would be better to install the entire unit and ducting all within the insulation of the van. Additionally, the intake is on the floor of the van, where the air is coolest. It would have been better to install the unit up high so the hottest air in the van can hit the evaporator. And the ducting you installed would be shorter, increasing airflow.

I’d be willing to bet..... it would work a lot better if you didn’t runnit thru all that ducting. Also bet this thing wouldn’t stand a chance in Arizona this time of year.

There are van builds on youtube where they put a stock window air conditioner in by building a false wall across the back (pushing the bed or seating area forward enough) of the van and having the "outside" hot air exchange be in the "garage" area of the van by the back doors. If I did that, I would install something like a PC fan to circulate the hot air out of that space by using some 4" PVC up to the ceiling area to pull out the hottest air, and vent it out the floor. So then you just need enough power to run the AC...
@mrmotofy
@mrmotofy 3 жыл бұрын
@@brianmi40 It would generally require a lot more air movement than that. Essentially the venting needs to be close to the square inches of venting on the case otherwise the heat transfer can't work properly to dissipate the heat created. It's sort of like running a marathon while breathing through a straw, just not enough air movement
