Was at the dealer today. They wanted $85 to change it out during the oil service. With this video, it only cost us $20. Thank you so much.

As you said, since it’s a Volkswagen, it’s expected to be a little more complicated than usual however your explanation made it ridiculously simple! Your video worked perfectly for my 2016 VW Jetta! Thanks from DR 🇩🇴

$50 replacement on top of the oil change. Bought the filter for $28 using a coupon from the dealership. Saved $22 for 15 minutes work. And I’m sure it’ll take 5 next time. Thanks$$$

Well done video, mate. However, about that $89 your local VW dealer wanted for changing out the filter. The VW dealer in my area did the job last fall for only $35 parts and labor. Perhaps you might want to find another dealer?

Any advice for getting those clamp hoses off? Mine don't want to budge at all!
@MattonEverything60002 жыл бұрын
Hopefully you've gotten it by now, but if you have not, I remember it being a pain the first time. I wiggled the hose back and forth, while pulling the direction I wanted to go, as gently as I could using some pliers. Felt like I was going to break something.
@branchassassin71982 жыл бұрын
@@MattonEverything6000 I did manage to get it! Ended up the best way for me was to first loosen the clamps ,then pop the filter box off the pegs, then remove the hoses. This was obviously the first time I've done it myself but imagine my dismay to see that whoever has been doing it "professional" in the past has managed to break off all but one of the clips along the outside of the filter housing. Usually had it done at the dealer, so I wish I had seen that earlier. Way too late now

@@mhsable I mean i got my car from a used dealership lmao the amount of money i overpaid is 2-3x more then what the car is worth. but thats showbiz baby lmao for the people that dont know anything about cars. that job for $85 seems cheap. others easily charge $150+ in California for the same job.

how often should the filter be changed?
@MattonEverything60004 жыл бұрын
From the VW manual, it states that it is to be replaced every 90,000KM (about 50K miles). I'm sure this is fine, but it seemed a bit long to me - I prefer to replace them every other oil change (30,000km).

@@Chill-eo9pz Those spring clamps are quite stiff, and they really do need to be opened up quite a bit. You can try opening it, and sliding it back onto the hose so it has no chance of clamping down again. I remember struggling with it the first time I did it, too.

This has to be the most annoying air filter to replace. Wtf VW. Paying the mechanic next time. Definitely worth the cost. My 1.8 tsi golf was incredibly easier to replace. That stupid part to the right of the engine filter broke while fixing my 1.4 tsi jetta. Don't waste your time as I did. Just get a professional to do it. He makes it look easy. It is not, took over an hour to just get those hoses removed. F that paying someone next time.
