In every reaction video (and when people saw the film in theaters) the tone changed from summer popcorn action film to serious war film after Ivan murders Melanie Mitchell. Everyone gets very serious for the rest of the movie after that scene, it literally changes the entire tone of the film.

Xander Berkeley being a bad guy posing as a hostage reminds me of one of the real life hostages in the 1980 London Iranian Embassy hostage rescue describing being cuffed and hustled out of the embassy and pushed face down to the ground by the SAS until they could verify who was who. As he lay there, he turned his head to the hostage next to him and said "We have just been rescued by one of the finest counter-terrorist teams in the world!" Even though he was one of the people being rescued, he had to be treated as a potential threat until everything was under control and confirmed safe.

So many people sacrificing themselves to protect the president reminds men that when Secret Service agent Timothy J. 5:18 That's not a palace. It's St Basil's Cathedral, at one end of Red Square. I don't know which Harrison Ford movies you've reacted to already, but The Fugitive, Blade Runner, and The Mosquito Coast are good. For a comedy, try Sabrina, Hollywood Homicide, or Six Days, Seven Nights. Gary Oldman also played a villain in The Fifth Element, but it was more of a cartoony kind of villain.

Randy Newman was hired to do the music, but Petersen didn't like it. Jerry Goldsmith was hired at the last minute, and only had 12 days to compose and record the score. The workload was so high that he got Joel McNeely (and, if I'm not mistaken, his son Joel Goldsmith) for some of it. So this is Goldsmith on a bad day, and he still managed to deliver THIS. He was the greatest. (Randy Newman recycled some of the music for Toy Story 3.)

If you thought Gary Oldman's depiction of the villain was great then you absolutely need to see 2 more movies with him: Leon The Professional (1994) IMDB Rating 8,5 Famous for Natalie Portman's absolutely stellar 1st time performance, introducing the french actorJean Reno to a wider audience and Gary Oldman's wonderful depiction of the villain. And of course the late, great Danny Aiello as a supporting character. The Fifth Element (1997) IMDB Rating 7,6 Adaptation of a french comic, basically a Sci-fi Thriller with Comedy and much more! Gary Oldman again as a wonderful villain, also Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich, Ian Holm and a hilarious Chris Tucker! These are both great movies, in my humble opinion absolute Classics. And coincidentally both directed by Luc Besson. I think it's fair to say these are essential viewing. Edit: Forgot to say Congratulations on your Novel. Who's going to do the screenplay and movie? 😀
@76tennboy Жыл бұрын
I’m sure plenty of people mentioned it already, but the Secret Service do not have revolvers! To make it a revolver it has to have the cylinder that is “revolving“ pistol, handgun, that’s fine. But not revolver. Also, those guns use magazines not clips just FYI. 😂
@TommygunNG Жыл бұрын
The one problem I always had with this movie is that - with the possible exception of the Secretary of Defense - everyone who does their duty dies. Secret Service agents die. F15 pilots die. The President’s people die. But the President doesn’t bail out as he should, and he lives. The VP doesn’t take control, and she lives.

The SS doesn't regulary use ARs. The machine guns they choose are compact models like an Uzi that can be concealed under the jackets like thier pistols. The badguys with the aid of a traitor got in thier onboard armory. Any larger guns used by SS would be for their counter snipers and not autos but scoped long rifles.

I'm not surprised. I'm not a linguist, but I understand from many native speakers that most foreign languages spoken in American movies are usually somewhat less than linguistically perfect. Some are so bad as to be basically incomprehensible. I guess the producers of those movies figure that the average English-speaking American doesn't speak language X and wouldn't know the difference .... but for those people who do, it must be embarrassing.

People saying nucular is a pet peeve of mine too. And the first time I got under my skin was when I saw the movie THE CHINA SYNDROME directed by Michael Douglas back in the '70s. Douglas who also starred butchers that word throughout the movie and it made me wonder if his being the director may have had something to do with it not being caught, like maybe no on the set who knew better had the guts to tell him how stupid he was sounding. But I was apparently not alone in noticing. Shortly after the movie came out, the sci-fi magazine OMNI had a cartoon in it showing the outside of a nuclear power plant with a sign on the fence saying, "No one who says nucular allowed beyond this point. I have similar issues with ... 1) the ridiculously overused cliches, "drakonian" and "at the end of the day ...", (These are like fingernails on a blackboard to me every time I hear them,) 2) the term surreal being used as a synonym for unreal, (And it has regrettably been misused so often this way it has actually forced dictionaries to add that usage to their definitions). And ... 3) the term gaslighting being used to describe any situtation where someone is lying and it is obvious the person using the term has never seen the movie GASLIGHT (where it originated) and has no idea what gaslighting really means. And finally (and you may already know this and was just making fun), but a parsec is a unit of distance, not time. And it is not merely any old measure of distance. It has to be measured from the surface of the Earth (which is a planet in a galaxy far far away from the setting of Star Wars). So that quote from Star Wars is even more nonsensical than the word "nucular".
