Today I am modding my .457 Texan air rifle with African air ordnance magnum hammer and spring kit. Also adding the 2023 MOAV valve to complete the Magnum build.

I have this valve, hammer and spring setup installed on a .457 SS. The kit requires the barrel to be removed, and the loading tray trimmed down by 5mm. If not it will come in contact with the valve when the breech closes.

I think the dry fire warning is about dry firing on an empty tank. I have a .308 & .457 CF. The .308 is going on 2 years old and its been dry fired a number of time on a pressurized tank. No damage old observed. The .308 has been bullet proof! probably 2000+ round through it... The .457 CF is only a few weeks old and trying to find accuracy nodes for it...

Hey helo, could you provide the dimensions of the spring you changed in the TEXAN? Outer diameter and wire thickness? I can't find it anywhere. I have the possibility to make one cheaper than AAO sells. Sorry for my English, I use a translator :) Greetings

I've been shooting this AF .457 rifle, and have been modding it as I go, (Carbon Fiber Sleeved barrel, Maddog stock, fire lapped LW barrel) for the last 4 years.. I've used 2 of Jeremy's valves....the AAO(2018 and 2020 series valve kits) which to me, have proven themselves flawlessly with my NSA 350g HPBT's,... and a huge massive power boost to this platform.. Although, I do want to advise and let all of you know, that There is now a big difference when setting up with the previous valve designs, and this new one which I'll explain. These previous valve designs allow you to set your hammer spring(meaning your tuner), to basically where ever you want to put it..(Mine has always been set to the 3/4 mark just left of the breech)which has been consistent in power and the flattest trajectory for the round I'm shooting,.... at least for me and for my gun it has. Your also able to adjust the top hat without having to jack up more pressure into your bottle, and still get an excellent punch in FPS, but you have to be careful in doing so, as the valve can dump on you.. so be careful as not to unscrew it to far... So, with that said.. I recently purchased this exact set up, about a month ago...the new 2023 Moav Valve, The Red coated Hammer spring and longer hammer. Like yourself, I ran into a huge issue, in trying to close the cocking handle carrier tube over the top hat,.. and Unfortunately I made the huge mistake before I did that,.. is that I adjusted my power wheel as high as it could go to the halfway mark to be exact., (and as you were able to with his previous versions of Moav valves)....And I wound up breaking my cocking handle off of the new tube as there was so much force, that it wouldn't engage the top hat, and they sheared right off. I was upset now thinking I did considerable damage to my gun, but jumped on the emails with Jeremy, and he graciously wound of giving me a new tube for less than half the cost( which I couldn't thank him enough for), and then he explained... That with this new setup, you only have to have your power wheel adjusted to where you just see it coming into view with the window! DO NOT Keep going to where you were once able to adjust it before!.... The idea behind this concept as he explained and I soon realized, is that the spring and hammer have so much force, that when the wheel is just dialed into view, that, that is all you need to do now, to control how much pressure you want behind your slug... (since the newer 4500psi bottles came out), is now just fill them to 4500PSI and work that way...., rather than adjusting your power wheel...Although Pumping more pressure behind your slug doesn't necessarily mean it's beneficial to the round your shooting with the greatest sweet spot and accuracy, that has to be tested at all different pressures and tunings with the wheel as I found out over time... But in addition to this new setup,....I still am able to adjust the top hat on the new 2023 valve, and found some slight increases which is very nice, but still be careful in doing so, not to dump your tank valve. When I repaired everything, and snapped it back together, I hit the range and pumped it up between 3500 and 36, and was shooting the slug at 879 FPS before making any adjustments. I used to get between 900-915 with a 3k fill on the 2020 valve( but of coarse like I said, also adjusting my top hat for maximum throw)... It's not bad at all..and still does considerable damage to just about anything on four legs... So my point in all of this is,. is that with this new system, you have to adjust for your FPS with PSI rather than using your power wheel.... For me, the Next move is going to be my filling to 4500 and see what she can do... this new setup is incredible and very powerful.... but def just a bit different than what we're all a bit accustomed to and used to. The AFT Still has to be one of the finest, if not the best (imo), Air Rifles that I own......Be Safe, and enjoy!

@@zachofalltrades6116 I'm using a 4500 PSI Ace care tank off of Aliexpress...which is not DOT certified so you might not be able to get them hydrotested.. .however they are CE approved and have been around for decades so the quality is there imo without any issues. I don't fill it past 3600,. because to me filling and shooting up to at 4500 psi, is not practical if you plan on shooting/benchtesting for a while...again my Opinion. I got the Carbon Fiber sleeve from a company called Dragon Plate here in the states... they make a 1" OD tube that fits perfectly inside the AF gun housing and around the LW barrel. I believe the only way they sold it to me, is to buy a 72" length unfortunately... they did not custom cut me one for the exact length that I needed to use for my application.. but I have extra, for future experimentation with other rifles if need be.

Where do you set the power wheel at when you are ready to shoot?
@themichiganoutdoorsman
@themichiganoutdoorsman Жыл бұрын
For the magnum hammer spring, which is an aftermarket upgrade keep the power wheel all the way towards the muzzle end of the sight window with just the holes in the power wheel visible. Start there and fire the rifle to see if you get valve lock. If you do, keep screwing it tighter till it shoots and you should be set.

So, it's not worth buying the upgraded hammer, just buy the upgraded hammer spring and use the factory hammer? Is that correct?
@themichiganoutdoorsman

That was my case. And I only order the magnum spring and it came with the hammer as well.

I have his complete setup installed.., new carrier tube, Red Mag spring and the long hammer. Just when installing , set your power wheel only until you see the holes(nice and straight in view) at the very edge of the muzzle end. That’s it.. of coarse like Jeremiah stated , check for any burr’s inside your main rifle hosing tube, as well as any from the carrier tube, so there’s no binding. I also (for me)had to mod my loading tray to accommodate the new valve on my bottle,.. the top hat was just barely hitting the loading tray, so it was suggested as to remove 5mm’s of tray to have it all work correctly, with out losing any accuracy, and I can certainly assure you , I haven’t.... Other than that , it was a clean install .. cheers!
