I first flew Air India from Nairobi to Bombay in 1956 1st. Class with caviar and champagne. Those days are long gone. Only 12 then so no champagne ! Super Constellation with a stop over in Aden.

@@bruh-qu1ww I'm a frequent Flyer on both domestic and international routes, and have been to every Airline of India- Air India, Vistara, GoFirst, Spice Jet, Indigo multiple times and recently also flew in Akasa Air from Delhi to Ahmedabad. What I've found and experienced is that in the domestic routes, Air India is definitely good and provides comfortable seats, good food and the cabin crew is too well behaved. Like its not at all as bad as most people assume. Even before Tata's takeover, I found AI to be a nice Airline for the domestic routes in India. Though at present, Vistara is the best if we look at all the factors, but Air India is also pretty worth. However honestly, in economy classes in domestic routes, it doesn't matter much as they all are more or less similar. The dilemma comes in Business class. In this aspect, I rank Vistara as the best in the Indian domestic routes and for Internation too. While for International, I rarely choose Air India and prefer Vistara or other International carriers even though I know AI is not that bad in Business class but when you're spending this much, the quality and service becomes super important. I recently went from Delhi to Frankfurt in Business Class in October. I had the option to choose from 3 Airlines which operated on this route non stop-AI, Vistara and Lufthansa. I rejected AI due to not being confident enough on it's Business class services, rejected Lufthansa because of it's not suitable timings and booked Vistara. It costed me around Rs 1.1 Lacs and only after 9 long hours of the journey, I realised it was completely worth. Though obviously not as awesome as Emirates, Qatar Airways or Singapore Airlines, I found Vistara's Business class to be as good as Air France and it was surely a good experience. However, now I want to travel in AI Business class too just for it's experience and see myself. I've been to Air India Business class only once from Delhi to Bhopal in 2015, and that was a small 1 hour 20 minutes flight and didn't have anything extravagant great to offer in this short time. Wish AI doesn't disappoint me ;)

@@stoner0721 I’ve found air india business class to be actually clean can’t say the same for economy but the business presentation for food is not good, even the food is mediocre and the seats are outdated to be frank the whole cabin is outdated, and the cabin crew is almost always good. Compared to vistara I would take vistara over it everyday . It has been a while since I flew with air india and I pretty much plan to never fly with them again I’m a emirates frequent flyer and just wanted to see if air india was actually a little bit good. Maybe things have changed with new ownership so your experience may actually be good🙂

I recently travelled Air India Dreamliner in July from New Delhi to Dubai and I was surprised with the change of quality after TATA takeover. The food was great the Entertainment screen was decent and the air hostesses were really kind to us! Great and Incredible India!

All I can say is that the few times I've flown AI (economy class obviously!) I have been treated with respect and courtesy by all the staff. Now with TATAs having taken over I'm sure the staff will be happier too. My future travel plans will include AI which will be my top carrier choice! 🙋🏻‍♀️🇮🇳

I still have a wisp of a memory of having an omelette for breakfast on an AI Jumbo Jet in 1977 as a young boy, Emperor Vikramaditya Mumbai- Kuwait-New York. The cutlery was all stainless steel. In flight service has always been great.

I'm sure there is an overall improvement after the take over but frankly the dinner looked like a snack serving!! On a flight originating from India the dinner meal served should have been more Indian n substantial !! I guess,small smart steps by the new management will bring about a very positive change in the reputation of our national carrier!!! Indian hospitality is unbeatable!! Prior to covid lockdown I had flown del to lhr and my seat was broken and leaning back touching the knees of the person behind, the crew told me Flt was full and no other seats available. I had no choice but to carry on with the pandemic looming and countries closings their boardings and had to get home n took the risk of a possible back injury. However do agree with previous comments that now TATA have taken over, in due course there will be significant improvements all round their service……

33"? Looks like 31?'" My father flew on an Air India Constellation in 1950 to Cairo from Rome. I flew on an Air India 707 from New York to London. I remember the Indian music on boarding and they served us orange juice before take off in economy! Crew wore saris. Love the Maharajah.
