My two cockatiel have just been treated. This stuff is strong and works well. It's also harmless to the bird and doesn't interfere with other medications so if you suspect treat anyways. You can order it online, vet offices and bird stores often also carry it or a simular product.

Thank you for this video. I just bought a female Goulian yesterday and she was making that clicking noise on the way home my friend that raises Gouldians he doesn’t keep the place that clean. I mean the cages were really dirty, but the bird look good and like I said he was making that clicking noise like you were doing on the video and, I have ivermectin. I do have Scott too so can I use both? I already use the ivermectin but I put it behind his neck that’s what I saw in another video and I also have I haven’t used that. It might be expired when you get time when you get a chance, please let me know. Thank you again.

Question: I didn't know this. But, can't they be gasping for air if they are too hot? If a temperature is too hot? I notice the females do that in the nest where I have given them cotton balls to use with their nesting. Is it too hot for them? They aren't showing signs of sleepiness. The thigh area is fine as long as you get the medicine on the birds skin. I've been using Scatt for years and there is no problem putting it on the thigh area

Usually within 24hrs but may take up to 2 to 4 days for birds that are more sick

Yes but it takes longer for the birds to get cured from Air SAC MITES. They sell the SCATT to put in the water but from my understanding takes about 30 days to clear up

Sorry for the late response. One good way to tell if your bird has Mites, you will hear your bird sneeze a lot and wipe its beak on the perches. bird is sleeping during the day. bird gasping for air then you know at that point the bird has Air sac Mites.

I have dusted mine in the past with seven dust to treat them. You get a spoon full of seven dust and put in a brown paper bag put the bird in the bag move the bag around gently and release the bird in its cage and it should be good after a few days.

Bacterial infections can cause the same things but they tend to be a direct result of the finch not eating as much or as well. Masses or lumps in the crop or neck of your finch can also be a sign of protozoa, not bacteria

Diatomaceous earth is not a good idea because these are air sac mites (in their lungs) and it would get stuck in their lungs, and cause choking and lung damage. Scatt or similar Ivermectin-based products are the only way to go. Not all finches need to be treated but Gouldians are especially susceptible to air sack mites.

Medicine starts to take effect immediately. If the bird is not too sick, the turn around time for full recovery 24hrs to 2 days. If the birds is too sick, bird needs to be placed in a small hospital cage with a heat lamp to help recover. They need heat when they are after treatment. Can take up to a week for the bird to get better. Remember 1 drop on the thigh area. Not on the feathers

If the bird has a real bad case of AIR SAC MITES it can take up to one week to clear but at the same time the bird will need a heat lamp in a hospital cage. Do not treat the bird again for AIR SAC MITES unless its 21 days later. The medicine is very strong and it can kill the bird. Also you must apply 1 drop of the medicine on the skin of the birds thigh area.

Thank-you so much for posting this. It really shows how to apply it. I just got 4 Gouldian Finches & have a question for you about another topic. Have you ever had Gouldians to be 'stargazer' or 'stargazing'. The 1st day here in their cage I noticed one finch doing it. Now I have 2. Everything I can find on the Web says that if not seen by an Avian Vet.that the condition usually gets worse leading to death. The finches were flown & shipped from a Breeder in Florida. No one knows what happened on the way to me but 50% have it. And I may have more & just cannot catch all of them doing it. They can perch, looks like they are eating & drinking fine. I was just wondering if you or anyone you know have had to deal with it & what was possible outcome. Thank-you for any advice. Calling Avian Vet in morning to get an appt. I cannot just sit back & do nothing. I'm not that type of person. Thank-you for your time.

Sometimes they know when the eggs are bad and they will kick them and sometimes they can push them out by accident from going in and out of the nest box

More than likely it's deficiencies in the bird and not just a bad egg. Make sure they have live insects during breeding or you'll see a lot of chick tossing and bad parenting. along with calcium in several sources including their water and you'll see far better success. @@Batman-on6gn

@@TheRootMessage Gouldians don't need live insects. I've raised many Gouldians and they do fine with a high protein food, in addition to regular seed. Most Gouldians are picky and won't eat live insects. But live food is great for most other finches.
