I contacted a factory that produces one of the most popular regulators and here is what they told me.. First is to find the velocity that your projectile likes the best with basically any tune.. Then for the final settings turn the hammer all the way up and adjust the regulator 15-20 fps faster than your desired velocity then back the hammer off for your velocity, from there only minor adjustments to the hammer is needed for optimal performance.. So if your gun shoots a pellet best at 890 then adjust if for 910 then back the hammer off to 890 fps..

I'm a brand new subscriber. I LOVE air rifles and hope to get one someday soon. I had a Benjamin .22 that I absolutely loved but had to sell when Covid eliminated my job. Anyway, that's ancient history, I'm gaining ground again and am living my passion for air guns through your KZbin videos for now. The info you provide is so thorough and even fun, Ive learned a lot of very useful tips watching your channel. I've noticed some tidbits of humor woven into your videos and even just dialogue that cracks me up. For instance, just now, watching the AvengX tutorials with barrel swapping, I saw the camera pan out showing a crane...and a freaking unicorn..hilarious!

I asked my dealer and he told me .25 isnt available in the avenge x, only .22 which can be converted using a barrel kit. Which is funny cuz the liberty and avenger both came in a separate .25 version. I personally would love to get a .25 but they aren't available here so should i just go for the .22, i also saw some reviews where they said the .22 version cant be tuned to a very high preset to shoot something like the .25 33grains even if you do get a barrel conversion kit

How and the heck did he get over 100 shots on the 210 cyl .. below the reg set and maintain a 16 FPS spread (870 18.1 tune) ? Set the same i got 18 ES, 866 average FPS, about 75 shots .. as soon as i was at my 1800 reg set, it started shooting around 850 FPS. Or am i missing something? Haha
@vansantsam5 ай бұрын
Look at your regulator like an unregulated gun that is always filled to max pressure at all times.. To easily set up a tune is to have a goal in mind for example shoot 18.13 grain pellet at 880 fps.. Keep adjusting your hammer spring until you are at max velocity (your target speed is 978 fps), increase the regulator and hammer until at max speed you are at 978 fps then back the hammer spring off until you reach 880 fps (10% slower than max velocity).. This will stop any blow by from the main air supply because the output valve spring does not need any air pressure to close, it can close on its own spring strength and dump 90% of the air out of your plenum and in turn will help the regulator be more accurate on refills..

Question, with both the 22 and 25 cal i come short of the max FPE by 10. 22 = 40 FPE and 25 = 50 FPE. Thats using the 25 grain JSB’s with the 22 and 34 grain JSB’s with the 25. I have the reg at 210 and HS about maxed with the 25. 25 shots with the 210 cylinder, ES 12. A lot more to go to get 60 fpe or about 70 fps.
@AEAC8 ай бұрын
Often, it's not always about maxing everything out to get the most out of the gun. Please see one of my 2 Ultimate Tuning Guide videos for how to achieve the best results. If you already have and are confident you've got the gun dialed in, I would say replace your barrel and bolt probe o-rings. Also, ambient temperature makes a big difference. The warmer it is, the faster it goes, lol. Steve

Yea so i went and reset my reg, was at 1500 after filling. Brought it up to 1750-1800 to start. HS at + 1 essentially your 18 gr 870 tune. Mine came in at 772 FPS. I understand tunes typically dont match up from the internet but thats 100 fps difference from yours. I settled at +3 which brought it to about 840. I then brought the reg up a smidge more and first shot 835, 2nd 837, i then went to +4 on the HS which brought it to 855 ish with the 18’s. Before messing with it i was running the 22 grain at 800, 18 grain 900 fps and thatswith 5 1/2 turns on the HS, 150 bar ish on the reg. This gun has gun seems to run about 100 fps shy of everyone else and why i can not reach 50/60 FPS with the 22/25 cal.
@Jeeper13788 ай бұрын
Back to original tune.. lives at 898 .. literally had a es of 5 over 55 shots. Reg is at 160 bar. HS +5. 18 grain JTS 900. 22 grain JTS 800 fps.
@Jeeper13787 ай бұрын
Stripped the gun down to see if anything was off. Only thing i found was the 2 transfer port H/L o-rings were dry. Nothing else looked bad. After putting it all back together and cleaning the barrel. Best i could do was (870 tune w 18 grain JSB’s) 2000 reg, 4 3/4 HS. 70 shots on reg with a 16 ES. Only thing i could come up with is AV’s replacement hammer springs are lighter .. only thing that makes any sense.. to me at least. But still besides the HS adjustment difference, theres a 30 shot difference. About to send it off to Alien Airguns and have him turn it into a beast haha.
@Jeeper13786 ай бұрын
For anyone reading this, it was the gun. After breaking a 3rd hammer spring i bought a new gun. Set to 1750 reg on new gun, with JSB 18’s it shot over 900 fps at +1 on the HS. +1/2 brought it down to 875 ish. 1900 reg .. i am now running the new JSB 21’s at 860 fps with +2 on HS. This gun is significantly more powerful than the 1st. Still not sure why it’s underpowered. After lubing up all o-rings and replacing the broken cocking cylinder o-ring, molly grease on the hammer and installing new HS. It did gain a little power. Still needed a little more reg and HS to get the 18’s to 870 (2k/+2)
@Jeeper13785 ай бұрын
Final update, the gun had a bad peek poppet - shaft seal (oring) bad. It was losing air into the hammer chamber (only when fired) Replaced it and it went from 750 FPS TO 850 fps. Reg set at 1750 HS + 1/2 slings a 21 grain pellet at 860. Just like my new gun im probably going to be at 0 running 18’s …. Its actually got a tad more power than my new one now haha

@@AEAC Yeah I see that the tube mount is offset, and that is why the larger bottle goes on without touching the barrel. Just ordered the .25 cal. tactical, my first PCP. After lugging around a Model 48 for the last thirty years, and an old Crossman 1400 multi pump for more than that, I cant wait to try this new one out.

I noticed some of your testing you are using BAR for regulator setting and other tests you use PSI. New to PCP and it's already a little confusing. PSI is more relatable.
