That was pretty cool. One day when I grow up I want to be a pilot too. I'm only 53 yrs old. Love seeing your flights. The IFR scares the heck out of me but at the same time fascinates me. Thank you for sharing.

I don't want to be a pilot, but enjoy watching folks fly. His ground speed was 203 knots (180 IAS, 198 TAS) shortly after he loaded his approach. All that kinetic energy has to be converted into friction so he can slow down to 85-100 knots to land. Being a pilot involves a lot of physics and math, and Jerry flies perfectly. :)

Jerry! You could post a video each and every time you fly, and we would very happily watch each and every second, we really love to ComeAlong! Love what you do and how you do it. Dig the sound-bites You select and toss in for our delectation too!

Doesn't bother me that your flights are to the same location. I just finished my IFR training in helicopters and enjoy watching your IMC flying. Some of your explanations of the 620 and 750 helped me learn more about those avionics. Keep them coming!

Hi Jerry. As always, I love the videos! Quick question for you: I know you loved your 414 but you seem even more in love with your 421. I’m in the process of making a decision between a beautiful, fully loaded (Garmin) low time, new P&I 414 and an equally impressive 421. I’ve flown both but it’s been awhile. Just in general, based on your experience, which do you enjoy/prefer more between the two models? (PS. I’m not afraid of the grated (stupid autocorrect! GEARED) motors so not a factor in my decision…unless you would disagree?) Thanks! (We’re hangar neighbors in KOAK)
@Jerry.Wagner3 жыл бұрын
The 421 is the choice hands down for me, the only negative is the fuel burn of 24 per side at 75% power, BUT today on a flight to Los Angeles we were at FL210 with a true airspeed of 220 Knots, the 421 will give you much more useful load, a faster plane and quieter ride
@JeffreyRubicon3 жыл бұрын
@@Jerry.Wagner - Thank you! We are definitely leaning towards the 421 so it’s great to have confirmation from an owner operator.

How long do you give yourself before a miss? I can see how tempting it is to go just a bit lower…..
@Jerry.Wagner2 жыл бұрын
there are strict rules and altitudes and position that are published on the approach procedure that we MUST adhere to, no way you can "bust" these minimums and go lower

Hey Jerry. How do they set those minimums? Is it based on weather history or local knowledge?
@Jerry.Wagner2 жыл бұрын
Those minimums are established by the FAA based on many factors and published on each published approach

Jerry, I do agree with practicing your Instrument skills is a HUGE benefit to keeping proficient flying IFR. BUT it means absolutely nothing "Practicing" Instrument flying with you are on Autopilot 95% of the flight. How about we disengage that autopilot for a full flight and REALLY practice those skills. You will definitely be grateful for that if your autopilot decides to fail on you one day and you need to shoot an approach to minimums. Hand flying is how WE REALLY PRACTICE instrument flying!
@Jerry.Wagner2 жыл бұрын
We practice both Bryan, when the field is down to minimums it is no time to practice hand flying in a Category B aircraft
@juarez4562 жыл бұрын
@@Jerry.Wagner I hand fly an Embraer 145 in IMC to minimums. Plenty of time for that.
@derek_da_pilot64122 жыл бұрын
@@Jerry.Wagner Why not? Don't have the skills to hand fly an approach? Its not practice when you are in actual.
