This month the Air Armoury's JRH tests and reviews the BMA/DB4 underlever air rifle.

*Sorry about the wind noise. I have since invested in a lapel mic with wind shield so sound quality should be better in future videos.

Thanks for your videos. I bought a Isaazon B3-3 from Amazon. I’m very pleased with my purchase. The came with a manual, safety and fully adjustable fiber, optic sights. The fit and finish is quite good. With 14.3 grain crosman Premier Pellets I am getting about 525 ft./s and about 9fpe of energy. The rifle is the least hold sensitive spring gun I have ever owned. I hold it snuggly like a 22 rimfire and it hits where I’m aiming it. Again thank you for the review.

I've got one and agree that although it's not a very good rifle in comparison to Air Arms, Weihrauch, BSA, Webley etc it is a good rifle for the money (£80). It has some weight but is manageable, easy enough to cock and fun to shoot. I'm not worried about it getting scratched either, it's powerful enough for pest control and is capable of respectable accuracy. The looks are reminiscent of a battle rifle which is kind of cool and the wood on mine is actually quite nice. Overall I like it. If you want an air rifle to be functional and enjoy hitting some targets without a premium price tag then I recommend it.

2 months from new I’ve owned my Xs 38 , and already lost loads of power, now down to 5.2 ft lbs , going back to the shop to be repaired or placed , shame I watched a couple of KZbin videos that recommended them ,, cheers Shane uk 🇬🇧

I bought a brand new one of these for around 68 quid in 27 yrs ago , hated the underlever clip, used to catch my fingers in it , It did what I wanted , at the time , far cry from my hw97 that I now own ,, cheers for the memory’s Shane

i have one of these! i never even new what it was called besides bam or that it was chinese till now honestly i rly like mine, its obviousely cheap but its very simple and sturdy feeling and it outperforms my cheap 22 break barrel in accuracy and power at longer ranges with scopes thanks to the fixed barrel this gun got me hooked on looking for other fixed barrel air rifles so i definitely recommend!

I have a few of those in my collection. I bought them all in flea markets. They seem powerful, but i don't know much about them. I tested shooting plastic bottles filled with water. They shoot all the way through. I think i paid around $60 American dollars for each. I have around 15 air rifles. The ammo is cheap. And they are powerful enough to hunt with. I would not try and hunt deer with them, but i would hunt small game with them. Some are 1.77 and 22 On the boxes they came in it said they was 700 FPS. But i doubt it. The smaller hand air pistols probably shoot around 300 FPS. All the rifles probably shoot around 660 FPS. But i still like them all anyways. They are not the high priced air guns that shoot 1000 FPS. I have been looking at the kind that the air can be loaded with a pump like a bicycle air pump. That way i don't need to carry a big air tank to refill the air rifle. Small easy and portable is what i prefer. They have rotating clips like a revolver pistol to be a semi auto rifle. But i will use what i have if i cant afford those other type of expensive rifles.

A friend of mine bought a similar gun branded Lee (made by SAG, I believe) in used condition for which he paid a trifle as it wasn't working, but after replacement of seals and a conversion to nitro piston it shoots like a dream. I noticed that the joints where the lever attaches to the action and to the piston push bar and wherever there's metal against metal friction there's much wear, evidently due to the low grade steel used in the manufacture of these guns. BTW, Shanghai Air Guns makes a variety of guns in different grades, some of excellent design and manufacture.

They are cheaply made but quite easy and fun to shoot and can work surprisingly well. Very inexpensive to buy used compared with other air rifles so that's a big plus, when I'm using mine I don't abuse it but also don't really care if it gets dented or scratched.

Bit of a tune will sort the power issue (although it ain't THAT important) new spring, re_blue the metalwork, some internal polishing.. Good practice if you wanna do it to a more expensive rifle, maybe a sanding of the stock and stain... Be a great project... Excellent vid I might add.. As always, very informative... Great viewing

The DB4 has a sprung loaded pawl that locks the piston solid once the gun is cocked.The slide prevents the trigger from being pulled.When the underlever is returned to it’s catch at the front of the rifle, the pawl and slide are free to retract and released to allow the rifle to be fired. Best practice is to keep holding on to the underlever, keeping pressure on the spring whilst loading the gun and only cock the rifle when you are going to fire it.Don’t cock and leave it cocked.

Hi JRH i remember seeing someone making a safety device for any sliding breech gun it basically is a short piece of broom handle split in half lenght ways you can then drop it into the open breech to fit nicely in here but not tight but not too loose , it stops the piston coming forward, and holds it in place for cleaning ?

With a clean and re lube I can see it hitting 500fps easily. Be a nice cheap gun to mess around with and more than enough power for the back garden. Plenty of bang per buck

I have the same rifle but mines marked up with a large circle with an A running through the circle and stamped just below that is a picture of mountain peaks with the words Snow peaks written around it . I bought early nineties I wouldn't it was the most powerful but it served it's purpose over the years .

Had one a few years back, sold it for a brick of 22 LR. Now i just have Gamos. They work and are good enough to rid my yard of squirrels.

I have three under levers xs38 and DB3 and the DB5 custom and these are in 22 cal and two B2 in 177 and the other in 22 the only one I have that's taken some time to settle down is the DB3 the rest are great to shoot and the b2 is only 4.9ftlbs and it is what it is shoot great out to about ,25m

Interesting but like you said poor quality but cheap as chips 🍟 Don’t see the point myself as I’d rather save up and get something decent. I’ve got a TX200 Mk3 and a Hatsan Dominator both in .22. Both are great rifles. Keep up the good work. Great review. 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

there cheap but you can work on them and if its just a tune up tune up for to smooth the rifle a great video and i am getting a db3 and db 5 at that price buy two I have my Db3 and my DB5 custom and I like them both and the Db4 and the DB5 the trigger is very good it's note bad rifle I striped it down and , de grease and then re grease. With moly it's scoped in and at 20m it's spot on and there cheap but they hate cheap pellets they both like hobby and super domes in 22 ,the Db 3 ok but not like like the Db5 it will take to get it warn in. Then I went and got two B2 rifles one in 22 and one in 177 but they shocked me there ok a little lively they remind me of my ,first hw35 in177, and the shooting no twang or bong but shoot well and the trigger is lots better then some named and I like that side catch to open the barrel to load,
