Aircooled VW Heater riser tubes deleted!!!

Have the heater riser tubes on your VW intake manifold been blocked with soot or just corroded from years of condensation? Well mine have been on many of my Volkswagens and always thought about removing them but never have. Well in this episode I did and it was easier than I thought. If you've been thinking of doing the same then this video will help you to see what method worked for me. My engine bay is going to look a lot neater too.

It’ll be interesting to see if it does freeze up. I should think when these engines were developed, they encountered the problem of freezing at some point then added the risers for everyday, all year use🤷🏼‍♂️. I’m also wondering if you’ll need to adjust our carb in anyway to account for anything and I’m guessing that maybe you’ll be on choke for longer🤷🏼‍♂️ Does any of this matter though if it’s fair weather use, it’ll definitely be interesting to see though.

There is reason why vw added a pre-heat tubing to the manifold.

Hello there. None of VWs I have owed had efficiently working riser tubes due to the fact they have always been blocked. Although a 65 Beetle that I previously owned suffered freezing of the manifold on the neck below the carb when running in minus temperatures here in Finland. I found out that the only modification made to the first car in Antarctica 'a VW Beetle' was insulation added to the inlet manifold. I wrapped my manifold with exhaust wrap and it cured the problem. And of course if you run twin carbs like my 64 and aftermarket exhaust then you don't have the option to have the riser. Lets see what happens. Jamie

Wrap it with electric heat tape and insulation on a switch, and I believe it would be fine ...I may try it myself
