I put these in my plane. I used the flood version for my wingtip lights, and the narrow spot on the nose. While I love how well the wingtip lights are brightly illuminated, these lights do not have enough light output to illuminate the runway. Yes they are bright when you look at them, but I could barely tell my nose light was on when I landed last night. I'm going to leave the wingtip lights in place, and find something brighter for the nose. As always, YMMV.

You're not kidding about the old filament lights being power hungry. I mounted an old filament style in the grill on a Buick 225 I owned back in the 1970s - when turned on it made the desert night instantly a sunny day - and within minutes the battery would be drained, the charging system nowhere near capable of keeping up with it's power demand.

All that and you didn’t even turn one on?

LEDs and HID are in the same class. HIDs being a little more efficient. Halogen bulbs are old style bulbs just with halogen gas inside. HIDs tend to be about 20% more efficient but their main advantage is gross output. You can get 8000 lumens from a single lamp. LED can't do that yet.

How about a bright suggestion for anti-collision strobe/beacons?

Wait, Amazon has an aviation department? First there is amazon basics multimode fiber optic cable, now this, they are bigger than I gave them credit for. And I previously knew they were huge.

How is the radio interference with these bulbs? Many of the cheaper bulbs really screw up radios with noise

The Amazon Aviation Department is superior to the Harbor Freight Aviation Department, and so, so many people utilize the latter, so I see NO problem with the former! ;-)

Hi all. Having tried numerous LED light units be aware many of these units create horrendous RF interference. Units designed for "tractors, earth movers etc tend not to have the same expensive electronics inside. Very powerful, cheap and useless if you try use your radio. I have found products destined for the emergency services have to have near zero RF interference, I have used CELL2.COM products to great effect.

Thanks. Do you have the amazon link?

Makes sense to spend maybe $150 dollars total on light instead of paying $400 or more.

Better do the 337 on the lights. I lost count on how many I've had to remove during annuals due to the lights not being approved. Of course not talking on homebuild. I don't know the regulation on experimental.

basically if it's vfr there arent any. There are regulations about the Color

I was under the impression the 4509 didn't have any sort of pma/approval. Why is a 337 needed?

How can you say that HID uses a lot of current when only about 1/3rd of a 4509 12/14 VDC incandescent lamp ? Most of the LED lamps are a joke for landing, they don't reach out well. They are mostly only good for taxiing, except for the much more expensive models.
