My personal experience, I’ve bought three air dogs for trucks and there has always been something not right that I have to deal with. Last night I opened my air dog and they gave me 3 quick connect fittings that weren’t the right size. Luckily I have parts from other air dogs so I could correct that but if I didn’t I would be pretty fud. I don’t think the quality control is always there. I personally like the fass brushless motors as they have always lasted with the truck. This pump I’m replacing failed no warranty. Also the fuel pressure adjuster is not always a good thing. What the pumps are set from the factory for the application is what’s been researched as the best psi to run at, there’s such thing as too much psi at the injection pump. There for eliminate the yahoo’s that think there mr truck builder of the year who like to crank the screw up like a p-pump

Disclaimer, I have a FASS on my truck based on getting a discount for a blem unit on black friday. It's a pump with some filters. I expect nothing more. I still have to make my bed, tie my own shoes, and my life does not have a sexy hip hop soundtrack because of a lift pump. The marketing about air removal is overhyped. These pumps remove air by allowing it to rise to the top of the second filter housing. It does the same thing in your fuel tank. The OEM draw straw and pickup basket is really well engineered and do a good job at the task for which it was designed. Airdog/Fass pumps actually introduce air back into the fuel by constantly trickling/splashing fuel back into the tank from the filler neck...unless you route the return back to a sump or a draw straw, to the bottom of the tank. I'm not saying FASS is a better product or a better company to work with but filter choice is not a reason to avoid them. The 1-14 filter format that FASS uses has more options available for filters with many filters that are a better option than the FASS branded units. For many years FASS used Donaldson before having their logo printed onto filters. Donaldson, CAT, Baldwin, Luberfiner (Cummins), Wix, etc. Lots of options out there also for Airdog (15/16 thread) filters but I think the 1-14 is more common in the trucking and equipment world. That is, if you do your filter shopping by looking at spec sheets and test data rather than youtube videos with hip hop music in the background. In fact, the new FASS filter strategy (140 micron on the primary) is not something I agree with. I'd never run their filters based on this. I want a quality water separator in the first position with low resistance to flow and a reasonable level of first pass filtration, and a quality super-fine filter in the second position. This is true (in my opinion) airdog or fass. FASS also uses 1/2" NPT, 1/2" hose barb, and 8-AN hardware connections, which is arguably more common in the aftermarket world than the quick connect fittings on the airdog if you want/need to deviate from the one size fits all kit hardware that the kits come with. The people at FASS are douchebags, but that's pretty common with all the overpriced, boutique, aftermarket diesel parts suppliers. Mostly because we as customers let them get away with it. I expect nothing less than the technical aptitude of a drunken five year old when I call.
@motorheadproductions8653 ай бұрын
Thanks for your info but from your research what aftermarket lift pump would you get? I know fleece also makes a lift pump. And they make a special sending unit that is compatible with fass or air dog. But it’s internal in the tank

I have been a CAT mechanic for years... FASS is a much better system, just their electrical wiring alone is reason enough to go with FASS... also if your under 600 HP you do not need 165 GPM pump, 100 GPM is good to 600 HP. Also ... FASS & AirDog both remove air, both are great systems, FASS is just better, if AirDog was a lot cheaper I would say they are great and go for it, but they are very close in price so why buy a system with not as good engineering ?

I can verify that if your Fass pump fails, Fass requires you to send your old pump in for them to troubleshoot it BEFORE they send you a replacement pump. My truck was down for 10 days because the shop that installed it spent a few days before and after, removing and replacing. Add in mail time there and back, time for Fass to troubleshoot your pump, and throw in a weekend too. I would NEVER buy a Fass ever again.

Respect the comments but, your airdog already died once, my fass has over 100k miles on it. Fass makes a multitude of filters including the old style with water drains and your lift pump does not determine fuel pressure. Your pressure regulator is what determines final pressure to the fuel rail.
@EVERYTHANGDIESEL3 жыл бұрын
Soo because it died once there bad? Had no issues after swapping the pump. They honored it and no problems. There is nothing wrong with the regulator setting fuel pressure. The unit only uses as much fuel as required and returns the rest so idk why that would be a factor. Respect your comment, but I don't see that justifying what your trying to say. Airdog also has multiple filter options
@tommyhalcomb71363 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. Lol i think you just made my point. It really just comes down to reliability. Most of your points are moot as they are similar designs and really just comes down to pump reliability. The fuel pressure set screw isnt really applicable for engines with a cp3 and or a pressure regulator. You know how opnions go lol, and thats for both of us lol. Ive just seem quite a few AD owners have pump reliability issues so I went with fass several years ago and have had zero issues after 105k miles of use. I hope your second pump gives you good service and no issues as being out of service over these pumps really sucks. Ive always thought someone should design a bypass system for these pumps for break down situations so you can at least get home with it.
@EVERYTHANGDIESEL3 жыл бұрын
I agree with what your saying they should definitely make it where u can still limp home. I believe my aurdog that went out was cus my harness fried due to being over the turbo and it cause the motor to fry. Since I relocated it and put it in the new spot I'm about to go on 2 years of the same pump over 30k miles and running like a champ. Like I said airdog vs fass is like cadillac vs Lincoln

Word! It cracks me up almost like some urban legend about these Fass stories. Fass really doesn't need customer service because their pumps never break down.
@thomasrose730 Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure how they give a millage on the filters... just because the system continues to polish the fuel so it's constantly flowing fuel through the pump weather it be at an idle or 80mph or 5 mph ... just my thoughts on that

I have heard good things about airdog and I am wanting to up grade mine at some point.. Has anyone ran one on 7.3 ?

Hey cam after watching this video i decided my next upgrade will be a lift pump then after that i want to dual fuelers. I have a question though is there even a point to do all this with stock injectors? I really want to ride the stock ones out and replace them and do head studs when they finally go out so i can do it all at once. Also do you know how much hp the stock injectors can handle for a 4th gen 6.7? I also do not intend on changing out the turbo. I really wana get in the 550 hp range. Thanks man
@darkirondiesel4 жыл бұрын
A fass or airdog is a great upgrade for any diesel truck even if you are keeping it stock! But in your case, duel fuelers would be a huge waste of money. There is no point in going duel fuelers if you are keeping stock injectors and stock turbo. You can make 550hp with the stock CP3 injection pump.
@Not_Tony4 жыл бұрын
@@darkirondiesel hey dark iron love your vids man thanks forthe response. Aside from head steads and trans uogrades would yo recommend any other upgrades for that 550ish hp?
@EVERYTHANGDIESEL4 жыл бұрын
For 550hp u can see that on stock injectors. I recommend dual fuelers just cause it cuts the work load in half for the cp3 which will pretty much double the life span of a cp3 even tho they already are extremely reliable and long lasting. I would do head studs sooner than later. People blow head gaskets on stock injectors all the time. Head studs are a excellent assurance mod. For 550 hp all you need really is good tuning. Certain tuning companies have made up to 650 on stock injectors. So I would do dual fuelers and get you some good tuning from a reputable tuner after dual fuelers and you'll be good.
@EVERYTHANGDIESEL4 жыл бұрын
To answer your question yes its a point and worth doing dual fuelers.
@Not_Tony4 жыл бұрын
@@EVERYTHANGDIESEL thank you. Im taking you and dark iron diesels comments in consideration. I know for sure I am getting a lift pump. As far as fuelers go maybe there might be other more important mods I should do first. Id love to spend a bunch of money on this truck and get 700+ horse.. but its a daily driver and i tow. plus I dont have that much money.. haha one part at a time.

If you watch the test between FASS and Air Dog it's quite scary at how much better Fass performs.
@Webedunn8 ай бұрын
I believe it’s personal preference. They both do the same job and the AD is over $100 more. I too have seen independent testing that favors the FASS so that’s what I went with but, we’ll see….
