Welcome back, Airfix... and happy birthday for your 75 anniversary. 40 years ago, I started my hobby with your kits - now I am looking forward for the next forty years. For music, there is Pete Townshend (who) and for scale modelling there is my new idol: Sam Townshend.

For me this is the release of the decade. My all time favourite plane and the kit so big, you feel its might! Sensational!

I cant believe people have completed this model in 30 hrs...lol I have been working on the first part (the cockpit and engine) for over 30 hrs. the detailing is superb and my painting and weathering is good but what an insanely difficult model. Even though it is an engineered master piece! I have had to walk away from it a few times..lol, I am enjoying it and having fun though!

I was a dedicated modeller...make no mistake, friends, I had my bedroom ceiling festooned, right? Spitfire, Hurricane, Auster, Bf 109 and Bf 110, Lancaster, P51 Mustang, Langnasen Dora etc etc all on one side. They blended into the Fokker Eindecker, Albatros and Driplane, the S.E.5, The Camel and the Bristol Fighter, both sides held together by the Tante Ju, all in 1:72 scale. Later I bought a Sopwith Camel, in 1:24, I put away the things of childhood, the Bf109, burned by a match, landed in some dirt, the Hurricane, inverted with the Airscrew blades bent back at 45* etc. Now to cut a long story short....my dear friends. I watch the most amazing models on KZbin. Real works of art. Even sometimes 1:1/2 scale And I always think the same thing....WHY? You spent X hours and Y effort to achieve - my term "half a dream". WHY? Here is my answer...Google your local flying school, book a trial lesson (a lot cheaper than you think and worth ten times what you think!!!!) Leave the models, the remotes and the Earth and GO FLYING, my friends. 🛩🛩🛩🛩🛩

The Westland Whirlwind heavy fighter, a much neglected beauty (except of course for your 1/72nd version) would look marvellous in this scale.

well done Sam, stupendous kit. Got the book on how to build it, I might actually do it one day!

An amazing concept of precise detail, which makes this kit very challenging.

I am honestly very surprised at the level of detail and the accuracy. I'm going to have to take a new look at Airfix.

I wouldn't mind a 1/24th scale Fairey Battle or Me262 or Bf110 or Handley Page Hampden or ... etc...etc... C'mon Airfix - get cracking! :) I've already got the Mosquito can't wait to get my hands on the Typhoon!

Airfix, please make more kits like this!

Amazing kit I think it would be good if some RAF personel figures where made for it. Say for example the men in the special units who landed in Normandy to refuel and rearm the Typhoons in the forward landing fields.

Thanks for the Blenheim hope you sell loads ; as reward for not just doing another Lancaster or Spitfire > Much as I love those

The forward area of the cockpit above the I.P. where the gunsight is located, that area looks more like a Tempest instead to a Typhoon, bracing for mount is missing. I have already ordered a "Tiffy " for myself, so that will not change my mind. But, I was wondering. The model looks fantastic, Congrats. - Bob

Thank you for the video, but maybe some day there will be one available in 1/32nd scale? Started modeling in '74 and Airfix aircraft kits were one hell of a bargain (and still are) for what you got in 1/72nd scale.
@AnthonyBrown1232410 жыл бұрын
Can you retool some of all the neglected British aircraft the Lysander '. battle etc
@bobdyer42210 жыл бұрын
Well, I did some research of my own and found that it depends on which gun sight. Since this is a 1b that is why the cross bar is missing. Same as the Tempest. Later mark A/C later mark gunsight.

Wish airfix had rubber tyres,those plastic ones with the flat bottoms to show the effects of the weight of the airframe just takes away the nice ability to roll it.

This was shot in our Margate showroom. Unfortunately, it isn't open to the public but we do have a Visitors Centre on site: www.airfix.com/uk-en/hornby-visitor-centre

As nice as this kit looks, are there any shortcuts or possible emissions. There seems to be a TON of work that will NEVER be seen once this kit is done. Looks like this is waaay overdone.
@waynechester38478 жыл бұрын
If it werent made in India, like every bloody thing seems to be these days, and the plastic werent as soft as pooh and warped, oh yes ive had parts like bananas that should have been straight, the fit of some components is also atrocious, it would be a half decent kit. Be prepared for some major headaches and make sure uve got a ton of experience under your belt. I would rather have payed more and given decent plastic to work with. People put up with too much these days, do people working for a pittance in India really care?
@waynechester38478 жыл бұрын
Customer care!! Yeah, told of a 28 day wait to get details of spares!
@waynechester38478 жыл бұрын
Received spare parts today well packaged so well done Customer Care dept. Not happy about this once great British company selling out for quantity over quality just like everybody else. But at the end of the day who really cares?
