The early fabric-winged Hurricanes went through a succession of changes as they entered service which Airfix have mostly catered to in this kit. You noted the different fuselage bottoms with and without the “keel.” There are two rudders because the fuselage with the keel needs a taller rudder. The hole you have to drill in the cockpit side is for the venturi. The earliest Hurricanes used this to measure airspeed instead of a pitot-static probe, which was a then new development. The kit includes the original kidney exhausts, which you were wondering about, as well as the later ejector style. Most of the fabric winged Hurricanes that survived into 1940 were retro-fitted with the 3-Blade deHavilland propeller. I don’t recall if this was a constant speed unit or a two-position coarse/fine unit but it gave a substantial boost in speed and rate of climb over the fixed pitch two-blader. Note also that the rust colour in the cockpit is for areas of doped fabric that were not overpainted with another colour.

Your review of this kit inspired me to get mine out (I have had the original boxing of this for absolute yonks but haven't built it because like you, I rarely build 1/72). So thank you Nigel! I shall look forward to seeing how you get on with the build and the use of the paints with it!

I built the new Mk.1 Spitfire in 1/72 a couple of years back and being pleasantly surprised at the level of detail in the cockpit. It's a lot better than the pegs the old series 1 kits that you bought in the bags used to have for pilots to sit in.

Very impressed with this one Phillip, but the pilots VERY soft.

I finished one of these a while back, using Techmod decals. Very nice kit. I'd like to build a Sea Hurricane based off this mold.

I built a series of different marks of Hurricane last year which included this one. It was definitely one of the better ones and was a pleasure to build. Airfix really have upped their game in the last few years and what they produce now is almost faultless. Have fun!

Hi Nigel, I was astonished to see you reviewing this kit, so curiosity got the better of me and I see that you needed a quick build to use the paints on, however it does look a great little kit. I sort of agree with those who want to see builds of smaller/ cheaper kits and will be very interested in this build. I do like most of the builds you do, even subjects that I have little interest in, the price of some kits is quite extraordinary these days.

Just done a few Arma 72nd scale kits and got a few more because they are such fun. Hoping and praying they do a 48th scale Yak 1b. Pleeeeeeeease, Arma.

I recently picked up a Hurricane starter set for a bargain price in Lidl, which says it is the Mk I, and is the same sprues as yours except it only has the three bladed propellor sprue, and different decals... looking forward to seeing just what you do with the kit so I can follow what you do and see if I can end up with a model half as good as yours will be !

I'm an Arma hobby fanboy but I think the new tool airfix kits are great value for money. This hurricane builds up to a nice model. Great for beginners and mediocre (like me) builders. Experienced modellers might find them a bit simple

I have this exact kit in my stash, and have built a few of the other variants that Airfix have done with this tooling. Great little model! The box does actually tell you when the tooling was made...2013. Hard to believe it's now a ten year old model! 😯 I have an Arma 1/72 Hurricane as well, and it looks like an almost carbon-copy of this Airfix tooling!! 😆 It's a nice little kit, but I don't think it's any 'better' than this Airfix one; the 1/48 Arma model does look fabulous, but then the Airfix 1/48 kit is pretty good as well! 😉 I look forward to seeing you work your magic on this... 😊

Looking forward to this one, Nige. i have a couple of these and one of each mark of the Armas. It will be interesting to compare them when side by side from 4 feet away :).

I've not built a kit for a looooong loooooooong time but love watching your channel Nigel, the Hurricane is one of my top 3 aircraft, so happy you picked this. I'm excited to watch this build as I've decided to get my feet wet and get this little starter kit. I know that the whole point of you building this is a paint test but a really basic list of tools for a beginner would really help, like a simple shopping list? I can't help but think a beginner's series of 'build along with Nige' would be a lot of fun but anyway really looking forward to this one 👍🏻
@NigelsModellingBench Жыл бұрын
You read my mind. That is exactly what I've done. Video one covers very basic minimum tools and a simple start to the build. The video series will cover building only, the painting will be covered in the Outlaw video. Then I will do decals and weathering for beginners.

Great one Nige, ya found the smaller Airfix version of the 48th Airfix Hurricane mkl, looks pretty much close to par with the 48th version...and under your hand I am 2000% sure it will come out a glorious, stunningly beautiful model😉🫡👍

6 videos on the list to watch, but 5 are hidden, are you planning on releasing the other videos or are they for a closed group, I'm up to date on boarders stuka ,Lancaster and hell cat and revell hurricane and spitfire, I've bing watched them while I've been laid up in bed recovering, not touched a model in 30 years but since watching you channel I've bought revell hurricane an spitfire in 1/32 Keep up the great work

@NigelsModellingBench Жыл бұрын
Is there a head rest? I don't believe there is. i think Airfix are asking for brick red as this is the colour of the dope they used on the canvas.. but I believe that area is aluminium?
@gloster2012 Жыл бұрын
if it does not have a headrest, the part must be cockpit green@@NigelsModellingBench
