Airfryer vs OVEN with ROAST POTATOES

I do love a Roast potato and after perfecting my oven roasties before acquiring the Ninja and then the Cosori (am very lucky to have 2 airfryers) I tried making roast pots that weren't par boiled - nope not quite the same - hassleback potatoes - ok but still not quite the same as an oven roast potato I had become used to.
So! what better excuse but to go back to using the oven for the purposes of this vlog and compare results. The real winner here is time, the speed in which the roasties were cooked beat the oven hands down. 20 mins vs 1 whole hour!!!
and in addition to that cooking time, it took the airfryer 5 mins to melt the lard and the oven 10 mins to melt its lard.
Unscientific I know but great fun for me :) I hope you enjoyed it too.
Thanks for watching, see you on the next one...

Hi Kerry. Great to se a regular person cooking regular food in a regular kitchen with regular ingredients! None of the trendy gluten free this or organic that or any of the usual nonsense associated with the so-called culinary experts!! Winging it and hoping for the best. Honest results and proper food like most of us were raised with. Great channel. Belly is rumbling now 😜. Up the dubs from your hubbies fellow Dubliner here in Drogheda. Cheers. Joe

Hi Kerry, I'm fairly new to your site and love it. Your recipes are amazing and easy to follow. I have the air fryer with the door and use it all the time, much quicker and better than the oven. I'm from Midrand in South Africa. Wanted to ask how you you reheat your frozen roast potatoes

Hi Pam in SA!👋😀💕 thanks so much for watching too🥰 so on sunday I will get the roasties out of the freezer and defrost a few hours before needed, then melt lard in AF and bung in with fresh rosemary or thyme and cook on Airfry 190c/370f until done, poss 10 mins or so cannot remembe exact time. Come out perfect, if not a bit better with a 2nd cook. I do my xmas day roasties same way, except use goose fat. Saves no end of work on that big day (I do same with roasted parsnips n carrots too)😀👍💕

I would have put my potatoes in a bowl, then poured the olive oil over them, then give them a good massage or shake about, that way all the spuds will get a good even coating of the oil, beats sprinkling the oil over them any day. Just a thought.

Ooo Don that comes under over manhandling, I like to keep that to a minimum as they're super par boiled and would break up if put in a bowl and spooned thru. My oil bottle has 2 small holes in the top bit, I put in myself (rather than take the tab out) so it comes out with a good directional control😀👍

Interesting the air fryer won this test… especially given you had to keep them warm for an extra 40 mins which meant they were cooking 3 times their time… this might have helped the crisp outside and soft inside though so it’s hard to know if it gave the air fryer the edge.

@budgetcookinguk
@budgetcookinguk Жыл бұрын
What type of Airfryer did you receive? 2 drawers help a lot and that's how I would cook a whole meal, so for example the chicken would go in Drawer 1, and while that's cooking I will prep the potatoes and carrots that I will roast in Drawer 2. Also would prep stuffing balls that will go in Drawer 1 when the chickens out resting. Obv use hob for veg etc. Havent used the oven since October last year, (was away at xmas which I prob would have used the oven then) and used it for that vlog with the roasties. Utilising hob and the microwave for certain meals helps too. Slow cooker recipes, pasta dinners etc are a regular here too.

We are the same in that we rarely watch 'normal' tv, youtube is on the telly and we have our favourites we like to catch up on. Love watching people renovating old chateaux in france and off gridders in portugal , and a few van lifers driving around the UK plus people who travel to far flung places😄 ordinary people is the key rather than extremely well paid presenters and celebrities. Would love to buy an old cottage in the sticks and renovate it - one day lol! Glad to hear you're up for the occasional taste test challenge!! Much love to you n the good lady Maureen🥰🥰🥰🥰

In 1990 I found an almost derelict 1600's cotswolds stone cottage...it was a sad wee thing.......32 years later, we have renovated..extended..and loved every day. Panoramic valley views...All done sympathetically, with proper old wooden beams and stone. Last renovation in 2011 was to build a new extension to house a through floor wheelchair lift( My darling girl, Suz has had MS for over 40 years...) It was worth all the blood sweat and tears. If you have a dream to find and bring back to life a neglected old cottage...do it!!

@@melrob5 oh that's amazing Mel, we've renovating before but got stuck in renting after the last big banking crash🤦‍♀️its good to dream and hope, so any ££ earnt from KZbin will be saved for just that, find some old ruin and bring it back to life. Your place must have some history, the older the better imo💕💕
