If I remember correctly there's an ingame lore reason for why the game looks retro. V1 (the blue robot you play as) percieves things in low quality to dedicate more processing power towards decision making, planning, mouvements and reaction time.

Ultrakill is genuinely one of the best action games I’ve ever played, if not THE best. It can be hard as nails on higher difficulties, but it avoids feeling cheap with the difficulty and, unlike some games (*glares furiously at the SoulsBorne franchise*), doesn’t make you repeat 15-30 minutes of gameplay every time you die, plus there’s no penalty for playing on easier modes. Combine that with the absurdly satisfying gameplay and the cool and diverse environments and you get a recipe for one of my favorite games of all time, period.

I was waiting for this one to come out though for some reason I thought you had already reacted to part 1... Wait till you see part 2... So if you never played this game, this is what I can imagine a hard trip when you take ALL of the drugs. The game is insanity incarnate. It's a new game still in early access. You only need to know three things about this game: Mankind is dead, blood is fuel, hell is full. Ok but seriously it's a high octane super fast retro first person shooter where you play as a robot killing demons as you descend deeper into the bowls of hell itself. It's not a complete game yet but BOY is it fun. You will need the reflexes of a GOD to play it though. 9:17 BTW this is not something MAx0r just thrown in, Gabriel literally throws the biggest temper tantrum when you beat him 10:25 Remember when the game told you"Blood is fuel"? They mean it LITERALLY! 14:05 You have NO idea how right you are 15:19 All of the drugs. ALL OF THEM! 15:50 Game is still in early access so...yes! You think this one was bad? Wait till you see the second part...

The quotes at the beginning are God's testaments, as time went on, he got tired of humanities shit and made hell before eventually dying. The humans made the machines but with a design change: BLOOD IS THEIR FUEL. Eventually there was a war and V1, the player character was developed. After the war ended and humanity went extinct, V2 was made. However they were just prototypes so there's only one of each model in existence. Eventually, blood was becoming scarce so they began sending machines to hell to find blood. This is when V1 gets sent, but along the way, the Archangel Gabriel tries to stop him but failed. The corpse of King Minos was brought into existence as a Supreme husk when Gabriel killed the king. The husk is only as large as it is due to how fond the people of the lust layer were of him. And no, the next layer is not within the corpse. The elevators are also used as signal transmitters, they turn the original object into radio signals before ending it to the next transmitter.

I absolutely love this game. It has such impressive movement and an insane arsenal. Not to mention secret levels that change the mechanics of the game. The first horror secret mission is called: Something wicked. And the puzzle secret mission is called: The witless. (Obvious reference to the witness). There's also: all imperfect love song And: Clash of the brandicoot. Each of those missions changing the genre. And the combat system is nuts since you have multiple mods for each of your guns and you can do combos like shooting an explosive with one gun and sniping it mid-air with a railgun to make it explode into a bigger blast, or boumcing your shots with coins or just straight up holding left click and swapping shotguns so you don't have to reload. TLDR; the game is insanely good and I can't wait for the final act to release.

To give a bit of context to the game before you get too lost in the increasingly insane editing, the plot was explained briefly: MANKIND IS DEAD BLOOD IS FUEL HELL IS FULL That should be enough for the spoiler bar, for anyone avoiding spoilers. You play as V1, a prototype warmachine invented for an ongoing world war. Peace broke out broke out before it could be employed. Nonetheless, V1 and its followup warmachines were activated. Humanity failed to stop them. With life on Earth wiped out, V1 and company were still active, and now starving. Their fuel source is blood, and they already drank the planet dry. V1 found its way into hell, finding it utterly full of life. The rest of the robots followed it in. Thus, MANKIND IS DEAD BLOOD IS FUEL HELL IS FULL

Ha I would absolutely love to see you try ultrakill, it’s really fun I swear. Even if you take it “slow” to take it all in. Edit: If you’re worried about your computer handling it, my laptop can play Dark souls 2 at the lowest possible settings with optimization mods at around 25 fps. I get 600 fps by default in ultrakill and it still takes up less of my gpu and cpu than chrome.
