Most demons in Chinese stories are animals, like fish or bulls. When they cultivate they start to gain a more human form but unless they reach a certain level of enlightenment their true form will always be an animal. The shocking thing is that princess Iron fan has already gained a true human form, showing that she herself wasn't evil and just needed to stop clinging to her dead beat husband cause she was better off without him

@@Bezaliel13 In this version of Taoism Buddhism mix, human are the highest *natural* life form before reaching godhood, so a demon obtaining a human form is quite a milestone. Demons/monster are unnatural evil but they can obtain god hood via cultivating wisdom & good karma. Of course the opposite is also true god can become a demon, if he do evil deeds or commit a heavy crime(Pigsy is an example: he was a god but was banished from Heaven & reincarnated as a demon because he kept harassing Changye the Moon goddess from the divine archer myth)

@@Bezaliel13 This usually requires either hundreds of years of just living as a regular animal, or experiencing something that can greatly assist in cultivation, such as staying near a god/bodhisattva by working with them or absorbing information that helps cultivation such as with Guan Yin's goldfish. Certain animals I also believe have a better disposition to cultivate or become a demon, such as foxes. Basically think of it as animals gaining enough XP in D&D and then becoming a sapient/awaken once they leveled up to a player character. But for the most part, animals that have not become demons are not sapient unless they are close to becoming a demon. A personal favorite story relating to this is actually "Tale of the White Snake," about a white snake saved from a trap by a boy foraging in the woods, who promises to marry a future reincarnation of the boy. Its a really good tragic/forbidden romance that has multiple media adaptations. Very much enjoyed it.

But most demons don’t since they usually become indulgent in their vices once they become a demon. Also humans can cultivate in Chinese mythology and fantasy, getting them superpowers and eventually divinity if they do it enough.

This is a very popular mistranslation, WuKong has 72 spells not transformations(he can transform into anything, there is no number limit) unless you count affecting everything around him as transforming the world then he has 72 transformation. For example: calling rain, calling sunshine, clones, fire breathing, shrink & enlarge objects,.... Even the 72 time you have to kill him(the spell doesn't actually specify how many time, it's depend on the user)

Eating items for power is apparently a normal thing in Chinese fantasy. Elixir is one of the things in martial arts novels and it is basically, any item with power that is used to gain more of the one the elixir is responsible for. And that Elixir can be anything from a pile of snow to a piece of rock. English just doesn't have the right words to translate from Chinese or games made so that when we thing elixir we think liquid instead of just a magical thing.

In the previous version of the drama in the Yuan Dynasty (13-14th century) in China, Sun Wukong had a wife. His wife is a princess of a country (called Jinding Princess), who was forcibly kidnapped by Sun Wukong. However, their relationship is good, but the princess often misses her parents. Sun Wukong doted on his wife very much, stealing peaches, clothes, and wine for her, causing a commotion in the Heavenly Palace, and then being pushed down the mountain by the immortals. The author of this 16th century Journey to the West adapted this story into a journey story. Of course, the current version of Sun Wukong does not have a wife

Chang'e isn't a weird spelling of "change", it's a name. I'm not super well versed in that branch of mythology, but based on context clues I assume Chang'e is a woman with moon affiliation, since the joke was about Sun not being half-way to the moon and Pigsy has a recurring character trait of hitting on women. Also, "BDK" is clearly the initials for "Bull Demon King". ALSO also, there was an ellipses at the end of "you could never expect treachery", meaning the sentence continues. Might save yourself some time if ya knew the full sentence before stating your opinion on it.

Rakshasi (I'm making a leap, since I don't know Mandarin or Sanskrit, but it's so close that it might not be coincidence) could be female version. Just like Japanese gods (moon comes to mind) often have male and female versions that differ slightly by pronunciation. Of course my knowledge of Japanese mythology is also not great, so take it with a salt mine.

I just figured out, or at least created a reasonable theory, as to why the horse represents human will yet is useless. The horse carries Tripitaka as a representations of the monk choosing to “carry” out his mission/ choosing to seek enlightenment yet is yanked around by the others to represent how our choices/will/willpower is influenced by the things the others represent: our mind (Wu Kong), our base instincts and desires (Pigsy) and our loyalty and complacency (Sandy).

So unless they fix it, the fire would just restart after you put it out, the couple went on a quest to find the materials needed to fix it. This arc is the last time we see grandpa Gohan & Pilaf in the OG serie
