The 30-40 year old buildings that were originally designed for 25% fewer students, and all the extras and add-ons and outbuildings means that you would have to carry easily 30 pounds of texts books and other supplies before you could get to your locker during a lunch period because there was no way you could get to it in-between classes without getting detention for being late. The only reprieve would be if you had physical education, because instead of another 700-1000 page math book you'd only need gym clothes... but then at some point they'd have their swimming session, so you'd need a Swimsuit, towel, and extra plastic bags to try and keep the wet away from the dry, and wet meant heavy. Kids these days and their laptops, laptops weren't even a thing in school until junior year, and that particular computer lab had more problems than Jay-Z.
