Airpark Living - CAP Cessna 206

The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) provided ground support at this year’s annual “Lynden Airport Open House” and we’re very thankful for their help! The officers and cadets performed their duties professionally. The highlight was their beautiful Cessna 206, especially this high performance takeoff!

I’m part of the Washington wing in CAP, and I got to fly one of their 182s on an O flight, my friend got the 206. Definitely a great program 👍

Very cool! CAP is a great organization, I’m sure you’ll get a lot out of it. Several friends fly the 206 here in Bellingham.

I've seen this plane all over northern Washington. It gets around. And so do I

It does get around, it’s based at KBLI but I’ve seen it in the air and at other locations more than at its base. 👍👍

Do 206’s usually take off and climb that slow? Maybe it’s a high altitude? The 172 I fly wants to leap off the ground immediately, i’m unfamiliar

All the 206’s I’ve seen climb like crazy, I think this particular takeoff was intentionally done in a mellow manner. They were also loaded with cadets and nobody wants a vomit comet!!

I like it so let me see if I can get this right . Everyone living there owns a plane and that’s their main mode of transportation? And do you have runways at the end of the rows running North and South if those two runways are going east and west or Vice Versa ?

Hi Anthony, thanks for your interest. No, not all of the hangar homes contain airplanes, some are used for car collections or workshops. All homes have a driveway and access to a road, commuting is mainly done by auto. We have one runway, east/west as you noted, and we’re able to fly most days. This is a general aviation airport, no commercial operations, we mainly fly for the joy of it!! 😉👍✈️🍀

Ok you don’t have different runways, but what do you do say you go up for a long ride or your coming home from a long trip and the wind changes and now you have to deal with a very strong cross wind that would make it incredibly dangerous to even try to attempt to land?

@@anthonycaruso8014 gotcha, fortunately that doesn’t happen often but if it did we can easily divert to Bellingham which is 6 min south. The runways at 38W are 08/26 and KBLI are 16/34, or east/west in Lynden and north/south down in Bellingham. I’m pretty sure a friend can hangar our plane overnight there, and it’s only a half hour ride away by car. See, no problem 👍

Yep, they’re very active. There’s a lot of multi-agency air activity this close to the border, it’s wise to keep a wide distance to let these folks have room to do their jobs. Cool livery, huh?!

Why does CAP need to fly a 206?

They have other airframes (172 and 182) but I’m told the 206 allows the best mission load and they’re built like tanks!
