After the first attempt failed, it's now Alan Murdock himself, who is going to get transferred into the 747, but will he succeed or will he face the same fate as the first pilot?

The times this bring back - the simple timeless story of man standing up and saying 'Hell no, i won't go". As I grow older, and remember these movies and these times, I almost cannot watch without crying. I know, it's just an old movie and I know sound maudlin. When I look at my 17 year old son and think what his future holds in this deteriorating country, I cannot help but weep.

If This plane was flying from Washington DC to Los Angeles, why would it be anywhere near Salt Lake City? Wouldn't Las Vegas or Phoenix be closer. Logically they should be flying over the Grand Canyon or somewhere a little south of that . And if you think these airports could not handle a plane this size you're wrong. The American Airlines DC-10 that Crashed upon takeoff from Chicago O'Hare on May 25th 1979 (American 191), originated from Sky Harbor Airport that same morning. That real life tragedy was only 4 years after this movie came out. If this flight was headed to San Francisco this diversion might have made sense.

Is this true in real life? Has a pilot ever been transferred to another plane while in flight?
@lardy70s3 жыл бұрын
I read somewhere that an attempt by the USAF tried a mid air transfer but with fatal consequences. Whether that's true or not is a different matter?. I don't think it could be done personally. The air speeds on both aircraft would have to be exactly right with no variants. The distance between both aircraft would be dangerously close to one another. Lastly the rescue pilot would be dangling like a stone rather than what's shown in this video. The wind and forces on the rescue pilot would be so extreme.
@roquefortfiles2 жыл бұрын
@@lardy70s Technically i think it is possible. But once the transfer pilot made it to the 747 I would bet he would get pinned to the fuselage from the slip stream.
