The last soundtrack for the genius that was Alfred Newman. I'd rank this score right up there with Dimitri Tiomkin's "The High and the Mighty."

I usually don’t care for golden age movie soundtracks. They’re quite good for the time but always a bit schmaltzy for my taste so I don’t return to them. That said, I too have always liked this score. I find it memorable and I return to this movie often partly because of it. I was not aware it was Alfred Newman’s last score!
