Hi Rob. This version I used to play was a combination of a few different versions, most like the 1995 recording. The transcription from Stropes editions corresponds exactly to documentary footage that was shot in the 80s of Kottke playing the piece. If you find any live recordings from the later 80s they should be very close to the transcription.

Thanks for the fast reply Andrew. I was looking for a way to send a direct message to you via KZbin channel, but was unable to find that function on the page. The Kottke Live 95 CD is the very record that drew me into learning fingerstyle guitar,so I know that version well. In my ears at least. I read the notes from the tab, and see it is largely based on the Shout/Noon recording.....So between that and the live recordings of Leo from late 80s, that should get me close. Thanks!

I hear a skeletal similarity to Jerry Reed’s The Claw. As always, Leo makes departures that only he makes. Not saying he copied anything at all. Same driving tempo. Its been said Jerry never played The Claw the same way twice. These are fun and hopefully juicy tunes when played right; like this.

Either way, that is a monumental work. You are so fortunate to be working with Mr Stropes. I find myself challenged with even the opening phrase over A. Do you ever teach at guitar camps other than your position at the college? It would be great if some of the many camps featured a week long work shop on LK or MH.

Hard to say. I could still play the main parts, but don't know if I could remember the improvised-ish parts exactly as they are here without some practice.

Thanks for posting Andrew. The clear angle helps a lot in learning. Is the version you are playing here the same one as John tabbed out? So many versions of Leo playing AP. I am trying to get the correct one to match up with the tab. Thanks, Rob
