I was disappointed that Southwest Airlines didn't show a Boeing 737 Max maximum performance take off. Everyone is prompt to criticize the aircraft but few people really know how stunning their performance is. ...Boeing rook part in a three way competition for the Air Force's heavy lift competition with Douglas and Lockheed. The design they entered has a similar (but slightly smaller) "hump" for the flight deck to accomodate an opening nose . Unlike their competitors Boeing's was a low wing design. Juan Trippe (who founded Pan American) liked the concept and wondered if Boeing could build a lrge capacity airliner based on it, The rest was history.
