If you do add solar, may I suggest you mount a panel or two (preferably two if there is room) on the roof, then adapt the wiring to XT60 this way you can plug directly into the EcoFlow with no charge controller etc. This will give you a lot more capacity for the E.F. River and give you a bit of time in the field camping to figure out your total electrical needs. Then you can design your LiFePO4 battery pack/charge controller based on your actual, field tested needs. This trailer turned out so good, I cannot wait for your fist weekend camping video!!! Thank you for taking us along during the build!!!

@harrymills2770

Panels are so easy to set up, and maybe you don't want to park in the direct sun. You're out in the sun on the road, but anything you have on your roof is blocking the sun, so maybe just start packing panels.
@jviewerm
@jviewerm 7 ай бұрын
Agree with roof mount. My build has a roof top tent and only had "floor space" for one panel. So I mounted one fixed but mounted drawer slides on the uprights holding it. Then mounted a second so it would slide out when we are in camp for 200w when stationary. Great way to save roof space for cargo (bike mounts eg) but still maximize solar when camped.

I've been following along the entire build and it's good to see it condensed here. I like the way you stacked the sides when building the frame to make them identical. So many people try to build them vertically on the trailer and it always seemed more prone to error - I'm intending doing it the way you did. Do you have any idea on the final weight?

I really want to build a "Tiny Home" for myself but I haven't got the time or money "Right now" been saving though and I plan to do so. And I don't mean to bug you but I'd love to hear your thoughts on a different channel that builds Tiny Homes from scratch and I think they do a great job and maybe it'll give you an idea to do the same one day, It's called Incredible Tiny Homes and the gentleman's name is Randy Jones. I'm just curious about what you think about his work and if you think someone could build any of the homes he offers themselves by themself on a decent budget. I'm not working with them or asked to endorse them I just respect them and would love to hear your thoughts. And don't feel you have too just because I asked alright lol. I've been thinking of going such a route for the financial freedom and opportunity to travel and I also think you'd like what they do and are about. Thanks Chase! It definitely was a challenge. I had never built a camper like that before. Only 2 other open air trailers prior to this. So I at least had practice with the overall frame design and how to do that part which helped. The biggest mystery when I started was the camper body it self. I plan as much as I can ahead of time but I find that I work best with the method of “I’ll see what to do when I get there” haha

Great build. Really enjoyed watching that. I've been building Teardrop trailers since 1994 and this design is really appealing to me. On the rattle from the hitch, look up the anti-rattle ubolt. That will fix the rattle for sure. Also, to get more weight on the tongue put the axle farther back.

I’m 74. Most schools stopped teaching welding decades ago. Most young people don’t even know what hand tools are or how to use them. My grandsons are early twenties and this would be a professional skill job to them. I learned welding, metal fabrication, machining, wood working, drafting and more in four years of high school. Schools stopped teaching that stuff as unnecessary. But they still have basketball, football, wrestling and other courses that are unnecessary to living in the real world.

Such a great build! I wish I had your welding skills. My only suggestion is to dump that circuit breaker. They're rubbish. They can arc at high current even when the circuit breaker is open, which is very likely if you're using lithium. I've learnt this the hard way. I'd replace with a MEGA or T-Class fuse, depending on your load. If it's just the fan and lighting then even a MIDI fuse would do the trick. Blue Sea is my go-to. If you're using it as an isolation switch then replace it with Blue Sea or equivalent isolator switch.

Beautiful job. Things I'd do different. Most of the differences are 4-season base camp related. * 5x10 body, maybe longer, but still keep the same cross-section. Yeah, you might get stuck on a Kelly hump, but what were you doing dragging a trailer over a Kelly hump? * Moar insulation. * Back-wall that's one big door or 2 swinging doors. I like one that opens into an awning. Don't think I'd want air struts. Just an arm that fits into a bracket. * Woodstove in one of the back corners. Kimberly's are spendy, but 6 inch clearance is all you need and they burn very clean. * Have an outfitter tent tailored to marry up with the back of the trailer. Something solid, like a good Montana Canvas 10x12 is pretty easy to set up, solo. Have them (or the Amish) make a custom wall made for the square-drop. More time-consuming setup than a batwing awning, but way sturdier. I've been caught out in BAD weather enough times to not trust those batwing awnings. You don't want gear that fails when you need it most. Random thought from your dirt bike thing: I think you could fit a 100 cc dirt bike or small atv in a 5x10x4. Not positive about the height, but yeah. I'd be thinking along those lines. You'd have to roll the bike/atv out to camp, but it'd ride better there than on the tongue, if you could pull it off. You'd probably need some sort of simple slider, because there wouldn't be room to ride it in. But I think you could make one of these a mini toy-hauler.

Very nice build. I hope you enjoy the removable tongue jack as much as I do mine. The peace of mind is great. I’m lazy, so I removed the crank handle and had a 3/4” nut welded to the shaft. 18v drill gives me an electric jack. With a home brew trailer, I’d have incorporated two more in the rear corners for stabilizer/tire changing duties. I’m gonna need to add leading edge fender sliders to my Cargo Trailer conversion after ruining a fender, and seeing yours.
@Adv4x4
@Adv4x4 Жыл бұрын
That’s a great idea with the jacks! I really debated on adding some screw jacks to the rear but I told myself I’d probably never really unhook it. And the way that the axle was placed we wouldn’t be heavy enough to get it to tip. In hindsight it would have been a smart addition just for leveling it alone! Live and you learn! Good luck on your build!

Very nicely done. You could even put a roof rack tent on the top of it for extra people to stay with you!!

@@Adv4x4 yeah your tubing structure should support more weight then you’d want to haul.

No doubt! It’s solid. I’ve been all over the roof during the build even before the rack, no bowing or anything.

Get a 100ah/200ah deep cycle battery on the Hitch and wire everything from there. Free up the space in the cabin used by that Jackery. Could also put a propane and water tank on the hitch. Build a lockable "extension" box on the rear to hold a table with stove for outdoor cooking. We spend an hour after arriving at site just to Setup camp! Wirh this we will setup in 5 minutes after arrival!

Cool, you could shorten the trailer neck a bit for tighter wheeling. Respect, that was a ton of work.
@Adv4x4
@Adv4x4 2 жыл бұрын
Of course! Actually with the way I have the tongue setup i can shorten it up to 15” just by switching out the trailer side hitch 👌🏼 But to be honest I don’t plan for this to see any crazy wheeling. On wheeling trips I prefer my ground tent. This is more for events or other sight seeing trips not involving hard trails.

This is a great build and has shown me with that much work involved, I might buy one instead 😂. Seriously though, as I’m from the UK, if I had a truck that big, I probably would have just thrown an airbed in the back. It looks huge. Great build though👍🏻
