Cass, so glad you are back! You channel I’d by far the most informative and interesting channel I watch. I’m looking to downsize from a 34’ Monaco Class A to 16X Base Camp which I will tow with a Toyota Tacoma DCLB. Mostly I am finding cheesy salespeople selling BC’s on video. I have just learned sooo much watching your videos. Hope you have regained your vision totally (I’m having cataract surgery in two weeks) and having a great summer and wonderful fall. If you know of any other BC videos that are good I appreciate you letting me know about them. Thanks again for all the info! Larry Lee Tacoma WA

Hi Lawrence! Good luck with the cataract surgery!! I haven't watched too many other Basecamp videos. I purchased mine from Patrick at Colonial Airstream who does have a few detailed tours out there. Nice looking bumper Cass!! I found your channel researching single axel toy haulers, go figure. You are causing me to fall in love with the Base Camp x only one problem. Probably not going to be able to stuff a dirt bike in through the back door. This bumper though.......I know the weight rating is off a little (100#’s) but at least it brings hope. Maybe the Base Camp 20x would work. Don’t want to get to heavy, I also enjoy the versatility of a Toyota tow rig in the Tacoma. Just finished up a trip to Moab and Prescott with the old trailer and am ready to upgrade. Take care, love all the great videos.

Another great video Cass! I had made a comment about you cooking outside before so it would be fun to see you get the grill attachment and maybe a canopy. @TailsofWanderlust3 жыл бұрын
Yea I would love that rear setup, as then the outdoor kitchen is well out of the way but always set up and ready to go. That’s great that you took yours tailgating. Such a good use of an outdoor kitchen.
@JohnCarolina8703 жыл бұрын
@@TailsofWanderlust Well it is just nice that you will have that hitch and you can customize your options based on your trip. You have made wonderful use of your kitchen in the Basecamp and it clearly serves you well when you need to stay indoors or are boondocking, etc. But there are so many options for trailer hitch kitchens (many under your 150 lb limit) that it would seem a fun addition. I would advise getting a kitchen box than can be closed and locked since, you use your truck during the day for other adventures. Mine swung out to the side and I could use the back for several features, but I had a higher weight limit directly off my Jeep than you will have. You could just have a cook surface and a sink and use a lightweight roll-top aluminum camping table for the prep surface. We use a table from Camco that weighs only 11 lbs and can be used to seat 4 after meal prep. I think we paid about $65 online.

Excellent product, appears a very easy installation. To install in no friend mode, after the self tappers place a jack under the hitch to supply vertical pressure when drilling permanent frame anchors and/or use locking plyers, the type that grip:) under hitch supports clamped onto the frame once it's position before drilling. nice to see someone giving it a go at small business venture rather than sitting at home collecting a check, if i had a basecamp i'd definitely be making the investment! The airstream sales person said I should have a car that towes 20% more than the weight of the trailer. But she told me I should get a car that towes 5000 pounds.
@TailsofWanderlust3 жыл бұрын
The towing capacity on the 4Runner is 5000lbs, and tongue weight 500 lbs. I agree with the Sales agent, it's better to have a bit more power. Also, check the tongue weight capacity of the Wrangler. The Basecamp may be too much weight for that.

Has anyone asked Airstream whether this affects warranty or is recommended?
@imerc113 жыл бұрын
Magnuson Moss Warranty Act Basically says that the company cannot void your warranty for adding an aftermarket part unless it directly affects whatever is being disputed. If you add a solar panel to the roof of your airstream they couldn’t void your warranty on the suspension. But they could if you drilled a hole through the roof and it leaked.
@TailsofWanderlust3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ira!
@jefftrapp54073 жыл бұрын
Possibly warranty issues aside, I did take the time to ask Airstream what they thought about this modification. They said they didn't recommend it. That might not mean much but it could come up if you had an accident and insurance could point to a loading, balance or tongue weight issue.
@jefftrapp54072 жыл бұрын
@Brett McCabe I think that's a pretty broad generalization. I once saw a tail heavy travel trailer get into a fishtail and it ended up crashing, luckily no one was hurt. I do think the engineers at the factories know a bit more than that average person. I did contact airstream about this and they said it's not recommended, would void the warranty on the frame etc. and I asked my insurance company and that sort of unapproved mod would also void your insurance.
@Greybeardmedic3 жыл бұрын
On another note, at minute 5:50 when they point the camera under your frame I can see a wad of duct tape that has been jammed into an inside corner of the frame of your Basecamp. It was placed there for a reason, and its now falling out... Cass? Is this your work, or did someone working on your trailer give you a duct-tape repair?
@TailsofWanderlust3 жыл бұрын
Good eye Eric! This is my in the middle of nowhere attempt at plugging the holes where mice come in. Happy to report it works. Less happy to report I swore I’d do a permanent solution, and a year later I still have duct tape 😂
@Greybeardmedic3 жыл бұрын
@@TailsofWanderlust How about getting underneath there cleaning it with soap/water... Let it dry... Masking it off with painters tape and putting in some caulk or Flex seal. Despite the fact that it's on TV all the time it's a decent product. Cheap fix too. If you use flex seal spray then use lots of masking paper unless you like messes
@TailsofWanderlust3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for thinking through that fix. My plan is to take a piece of metal and bolt it in back there. I just haven’t taken the time to go to the hardware store. It should have a couple tiny holes in it for any water drainage if needed.
