Couple of things to clarify: The person I was chasing had all of his devices in Flight Mode, which blocks all wireless connections, including Bluetooth to the tags and 5G to the Apple / Samsung servers I pressed the refresh button in the Samsung app, but all it actually does is ask Samsung's servers for an update, it can't contact the tag directly unless you're within Bluetooth range yourself We went to the centre of the 6th most populated UK city and sat in a restaurant with other people around. I don't think you understand how the Samsung Tag works. It doesn't need other Samsung phones to have the Smart Things app installed. It will ping any Samsung phone or tablet within range, that was produced withing the last around 5-6 years, and will use that to share a location. The reason you only got pinged once, is that it was a rainy day (few ppl outside), and he walked on very unpopulated places, and then stayed outside a very unpopulated cafe. It's not ideal, but these things depend on the population around. If you choose a sunnier day so that more people are outside and you chose a more populated location, you will get much better result. So this test that you performed was very badly planned and executed. It poorly informs the people about how the tag actually works and it really doesn't explain anything about the differences and advantages of each tag. It doesn't explain about UWB, it doesn't explain about the battery life, it doesn't even mention the new NFC info that the Samsung Tag2 has. You didn't make the effort to research the technology well, and since you didn't know it well, you couldn't present it well. Overall pretty disappointing.

The thing is its not his fault the tag didn't work well. I would blame samsumg objectively even as a samsung s23 ultra owner. You can't have the expectation that weather will be great and people will be around when an item with your tag is stolen. Even if theres not many people around that's not his fault. 23 minutes is not okay and he pressed the refresh button. This is the reality of what can happen even in a dense city center. I think samsung has some work to do. I was suprised there wasn't a ping to a device at least inside a neaby building.

I had a good trial run when I tested the tags out in Paris. I made the mistake of using my Google Pixel 7 as the data source (hotspot) and my Samsung S23 using that hotspot. the accuracy was very poor when doing it this way and the tags were very delayed when I did it this way. (note that my tags where paired to my Samsung S23) At the last day of our stay in Paris, I switched the data source so Data coming directly from the Samsung S23 now and not the Pixel and the accuracy of each tag I had jumped to almost more accurate location of where it was. Now that I am back in Canada with them, I can track the tag more real time also helps if you constantly press the refresh button to see where and if they moved.

The success totally depends on by passers and the brand phone they are carrying for relaying the tag position their phone has picked up from the tag. A con for the smarttag is that a by passers Samsung phone only relays the tag position if they have the smartthings app installed. It wasn’t installed on mine by default.

In contrast to Apple AirTag's reliance on nearby Apple devices, Samsung's tracking technology utilizes the Android ecosystem, creating a mesh network with any nearby Android devices for location updates. While Android boasts a vast network globally, regions with fewer Android devices may experience limited location updates. Consequently, in areas with a higher concentration of Samsung devices, such as parts of Asia, Africa, and Australia, Samsung's tracking device may offer enhanced precision and functionality due to increased compatibility with local Android devices.

First of all, those who are buying Samsung they like the fact that they can control their phone. So most of the samsung's phone users have their phone's nearby device scanning option off. Or they usually turn off their bluetooth and this feature on samsung got out recently. But usually apple phone users don't have much control on their phone so all phones mostly do the same thing in finding nearby devices. So, I do ask samsung users to turn on the feature of "nearby device scanning" on in their phone. 😊

I bought 2 x of these new Samsung tags, and the experience has been highly disappointing. I already had to replace the batteries 3 x times in 6 weeks, and it would search for the tags whilst they are laying right next to my Galaxy S23 Ultra. I did not expect such poor quality from a Samsung product, and would not recommend it.

Samsung has more users and has been proven to track better than Apple...this seems like you've messed this up somehow.

Galaxy Smart Tag works within Bluetooth range and beyond that range, the tag must be near to any other Samsung phone (probably in public) to make it possible.

Yes, so exactly like AirTags.

I see alot of mad Samsung users in the comments. But to be completely honest, it depends 100% on who happens to pass by with a compatible phone. That's it. Luck of the draw. In this particular test, it just happened that someone in the restaurant or on the patio had an iphone. I'm an iphone guy, but I wouldn't say either one is necessarily "better" than the other. They do the same damn thing, and it's mostly blind luck. Either one could ping faster on any given day depending on who walks past. Just saying.

Totally agreed. I think the issue people have is that this video is very flawed and doesn't give the proper analysis. Your simple response is more informative than this whole video. When Google implements their own tracker it'll have the biggest user base of any tracker on the market. Android is the most used OS in the world and it will ping off Samsung phones in addition to any other Android phone. That's the biggest advantage right there but to your point yes it still comes down to luck

nothing to with the tags themselfs it depends what phone is near by Samsung or iPhone (ipad/macbook)

Lots of harsh samsung die hards in the comment section. I think you did a great realistic video. It not your fault the tag didn't work well. I would blame samsumg objectively even as a samsung s23 ultra owner. You can't have the expectation that weather will be great and people will be around when an item with your tag is stolen. Even if theres not many people around that's not your fault. 23 minutes is not okay and you pressed the refresh button. This is the reality of what can happen even in a dense city center. I think samsung has some work to do. I was suprised there wasn't a ping to a device at least inside a neaby building.

It's not about tag. I will depend on network of smartphone. So, if you go over place where there is many samsung users then obviously samsung will do better and vice versa. 9:13 The only thing that he missed is he should have pinged the tag and find the location with smartphone first. He just went and searched the person and not the tag itself.

Very odd. Same test in Australia, the smarttag works better
@Tailong11 ай бұрын
It doesnt matter how much better and accurate the Samsung one if the requirements for it to ping the tag are so rare, I know so many people that have a Samsung and none of them have the Smarttag app installed so makes the tag useless.
@ChrisJohannsen11 ай бұрын
It's the smart things app and it's preinstalled on all Samsungs so no it's not useless
@ArdaSReal11 ай бұрын
You dont need the app, it is in the system settings called "offline finding". Most have it disabled i assume because of privacy and battery but of course in iPhones apple decides whats on and whats not lol
@victordavalos24610 ай бұрын
@ArdaSReal Research before coment naively, you can also disable in IPhone, the thing is, and IPhone user is also less likely messing around in the settings app, if you normally turn off the Bluetooth in the toggle in notifications panel that just turns it off for a couple of hours, you have to enter settings to completely disable Bluetooth, and for having the Bluetooth on in IPhone the tracker works, instead in Android you can have the Bluetooth on but not the tracking option, and a lot of people disable it cause of battery life, not matter how much more features the smarttag may have, the larger user base in Airtags means they going to be better at tracking
@carlholdt1042 Жыл бұрын
What phone does the person being tracked have? He has an apple watch so he probably has an iPhone with him giving his apple tag a major unfair advantage. His phone should have been switched off so it wouldn't influence the test. This video is very poorly thought through. You should delete it and redo the test

Hard thing to test but cool video. Its just impossible to have a fair playing field, would be interesting to do the same thing on Seoul 😂 At the end of the day the tech can be amazing but if just everyone is an iPhone pleb it wont work
