I've been waiting THREE WHOLE YEARS You have no idea how unreal this feels. Season two has been in my mind for so long, I have friends at Fortiche that wouldn't even let me have crumbs of visuals, I managed to NOT get spoiled after the 5 first episodes leaked months ago. I'm so glad I did ! Act 1 is insane, and if it goes the same way season 1 did (meaning it goes crescendo from start to finish), we're in for one hell of a ride next week, and the week after that. @@artxroyalty I'm guessing no, but we'll see. Kindred in the game, can make everyone around them, in a very small circle not die for 4 seconds, so why Jayce didn't get hurt either. After the M/V i figured the gold on her back shoulders and arms, which i thought was decorative was a mark of Kindred, called "Lamb's Respite" in the game Kindred is two beings, The Lamb and The Wolf. Now in season 2, its gone. So unless we see it slowly come back over the episodes, my guess it was a one time blessing.

My only criticism is that it feels a little held back by the necessity to catch up people who missed season 1. Trying to accomplish that at the same time as trying to move the story forward forces them to rely on the conventional solution, exposition, a bit too much. It's inelegant compared to what we know they can do, storytelling-wise, and I wish they didn't have that pressure. Otherwise, I'm very pleased. ESPECIALLY with Viktor's story.

I am glad to find your reaction asap. I’ve been obsessed for 3 years, going down the rabbit hole analyzing the show, the writing, the animation, the character designs, the lore of Runeterra. I rewatched S1 over a dozen times (how best to fill 3 years wait! I don’t apologize.) I watched this first thing in the morning with my 13-year-old daughter. Then in the evening we rewatched the first 3 episodes in the evening, and damn, Riot and Fortiche put in little things that we missed the first watch through. Little reactions, specific match cuts, editing choices in episode 1 and 2 that foretold the reveals in episode 3. The way this show uses *editing* to tell their stories is masterclass. And I get that a lot of editing goes over many heads. Just like season 1, the rewatch was even better. Which is not to say the first time was not peak media. It just… gets… better!

@artxroyalty lmao wasn't a choice for me, I knew I COULD be watching it instead of sleeping, and I was vibrating in place in my bed trying to sleep. I was waaaaay too excited to sleep. I legit haven't had that happen for anything in like a decade. And now I'm more excited for Act 2 than I've been for anything in a looooooong time too, but it's even better cause Arcane doesn't do cliffhangers at the end of acts. The act had a proper climax and denouement, but the possibilities it set up are just so damn exciting. It's incredible a weekly TV series can be structured like this and do that, generate that feeling. Albeit it's only 2 times, but it feels WAY better than an episode a week while still keeping that buzz, yknow?

I'm probably over-interpreting too much, but with Fortiche you can expect anything in terms of pop culture references. In Shining, Jack Nicolson destroys a door with an axe, in this episode Renni, the chem-baroness, destroys a door with a chainsaw and the expression on his face is the same (I checked!). The scene of the wheelchair being pushed by Embessa down the stairs, a tribute to Brian De Palma's "The Untouchables"? A mother brings a child up the stairs in a pram, Embessa (a mother) brings an adult down the stairs in an armchair. The most striking, for me, is the scene where Caitlyn consults this machine, a sort of very steampunk data bank which reminds me of an organ like in Disney's “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea” (1954, adapted from Jules Verne). Captain Nemo, an Indian prince who has become a nobody (nemo in Latin), wants revenge for the death of his wife, killed by the troops of the British Empire. Caitlyn becomes a princess (Piltover is an aristocratic society), after having been a simple policewoman (almost nobody), after the death of her mother killed by Jinx and wants revenge. Jinx who is part of the troops of the "empire" of Silco as said VI (S1E6). Captain Nemo also fights against an animal (a giant octopus which gave me nightmares as a child) which attacks the Nautilus and Caitlyn wants to fight against animals (she tells Vi), animals which live "in- underneath" (Zaun) like the octopuses under the sea. Besides, Silco's lair is under the sea, we see there at one point an octopus and... Name of a dog!! Silco is Nemo!!!

Ha - this is a fast upload! Before I even got to barely manage to watch S2E1 . Well - now I did and NGL - the waterworks tried to force their way 5 mins in for me - damn the music team. Epic start. Intense rewatch over the week inevitable . ☝😶 And I can't stress enough how relieved I am that the first episode didn't suck ... I had faith - but you never know. If anything the opener of season 2 was even better than S1E1 ! Again a great reaction - can't wait for the next.

At moments, the echoes and callbacks raise this to visual poetry. Not always pleasant poetry, but still. For me the Piltover/Zaun relationship is summed up by the moment between Heimerdinger and the little girl in S1E8. She brings him raw materials she's unearthed, he transforms them into something astounding, but before it can move past that, old grudges and distrust pull them apart. Or perhaps that's just the sanitized Piltie view... the scene likely looked very different through the eyes of the intervening mother figure. If the refugees from the Rune Wars that founded Piltover had never shown up, what would Zaun look like? Would the self-destructive factionalism manifested by the Chem Barons be present in another guise? I am reminded of the uncomfortable adage: being a victim doesn't always equate to being virtuous, but being a victimizer never does.

I really don't get why anyone would think Noxian soldiers being in Piltover is a good thing. Most obvious 3rd act is Ambessa trying to use the civil war as a pretext to conquer both cities, and both sides having to come too tether to fight a foreign threat. Which was literally the conversation Silco and Jayce had during their negotiations.
