OP in the “do you think I’m fat” post is, to me, a good example of intelligence vs. wisdom. OP technically did the right thing by asking if the person wanted an honest opinion and also made the disclaimer about not valuing them differently. On paper, it might seem tactful, but wisdom is about being emotionally intelligent enough to realize that it’s just not worth it to hurt someone over something so meaningless.
@jstache932 жыл бұрын
I'd like to preface this by saying that it in no way affects how I view OP as a person. I don't think that neurodivergence is a good measure of who someone is. That being said, OP is a little autistic.
@Правильноемнение-н4д2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you put into words what I thought about it. It's not a sign of emotional intelligence to be "radically honest", even when it's technically true. Maybe the girlfriend shouldn't have asked, but everyone has a moment of weakness and the need for reassurance. She could be just vulnerable that moment so she asked her bf and the OP. And plus, she wasn't even that fat (according to the OP). I assume she was 5-7 kilos above her healthy weight. In that case, a little bit of lie would be a sign of true emotional intelligence.
@cartoonhanks17082 жыл бұрын
@@Правильноемнение-н4д I actually 100% disagree. I think this was a lose lose situation for OP. and he probably read the situation correctly and just wrong place wrong time, damned if you do, damned if you don't.
@Правильноемнение-н4д2 жыл бұрын
@@cartoonhanks1708 we won't agree because it's the matter of personal morals. But the way I see it, the girl was barely above the normal BMI. It's not like she was 150 kilos and then asked that question. So a little lie is way more humane than being "radically honest". If the OP would show just *a little bit* of empathy, he wouldn't even have to go on Reddit to seek validation. Also I am 99.9% sure that if his boss asks why he is late or didn't finish the project, he wouldn't say "Oh sorry, just didn't feel like it". But then again, OP is really young, so he can enjoy his "high" morals until his first paycheck comes.

Knowing what I know now about fat phobia in the modern world, the question “do you think I’m fat?” is such a loaded question. Like, you obviously care whether or not you’re fat, which is why you’re asking, and you obviously think one if preferable, or else you wouldn’t ask. Taking the default “oh no you’re not fat” stance does a lot to harm people’s perception of fat people, like it’s taboo or wrong to be fat. It’s a non starter question and personally, if somebody asked me, I would just turn 360 degrees and moonwalk away

yeah. the fat thing is difficult. I've been in relationships with bigger girls on occasion. and you'd need an infinite amount of 'body positivity' to not hear 'you're fat' without a kneejerk 'insulted' reaction occuring. on that note, if he really wanted to not lie, but also soften the blow, a) the preface doesn;t help. at all. just say the thing you're going to say. It's like bring your child into a room and starting with "just to be clear, we both still love you and nothing that we might be about to say will ever change that, okay?" it's just not helping. b) fatphobia in mind, no one is happy about bing a 'fat person'. if you have to ackneledge excess body fat, you do it in a way that's compartmentalized. There is a person, and then maybe they have a few extra pounds on them. it allows for the idea that the extra weight is something that's not intrinsically a part of them. and the word fat by itself is best avoided entirely. use chubby. call it a muffin top. says something about being 'medium-thicc'. 'could stand to lose a few pounds.' but yeah, not being asked the question in the first place is the best.

My thoughts as well, you're going into a partnership, not an individualship. Maybe he should get married to the parents, seeing as how they're better at contributing to their relationship than the fiancee is. What kind of selfish person gets money from their parents as a gift to help pay the down payment on a house that they're trying to buy with their future husband/wife, and says "Great, now I get to keep my half of the payment in my savings and I get a little extra on top for myself." That's not her contribution, that's her parents'. If they didn't give the money, was she still not going to pay anyway? Way I see it, they should have split the rest of the payment between them, or done what NL said and used it to make a bigger down payment for a smaller principle on the loan.

I totally get knife-phobia lady’s fear of certain knives more than others. I saw my dad 🔪 my mum (she’s ok, twas a light stabbing) and I get very uneasy around all knifes - but some DO look more stabby than others!

possible that I am to paranoid about my knives, would not put them in dishwasher, but also clean them and dry them as soon as i stopped using them. does not leaving them dirty in the sink ruin them more than dishwasher does? for days i mean...

I disagree with the take at 54:26. To me - admitidly not 16 - there are 2 pretty good options. 1) You hand wash the dishes that didnt clean in the dishwasher and then put them away. And look, i know it isnt your job to do it but i imagine the initiative would be appreciated. In the instance that isnt an option then 2) Ask your mom what she wants you to do with the dishes that come out dirty. When she confronted you the first time ask for advice. Sure i don't think she did anything wrong*, but she did do the bare minimum (which was her mom had a problem with). * That said, "'I kindly said, i was putting away the dishes" is taking the piss.

I feel like with the knives she could take an old opaque tupperware and put them underneath that in the side sink or somewhere, but I think in the moment she is (subconsciously at least) taking the route that will cause the most friction bc it was so jarring to her that she feels like this is the only way to get across the knives need to be cleaned sooner.

How about just don't eat it if you don't like it, if someone gets low quality gas station food, you are not forced into eating and liking it because it's a party. i'd eat something else later or the next day and just say no thanks, i'm not hungry for gas station pizza and the diahrrea which comes with it shortly after. Aye free munchies with dysentery tho.

Here I was thinking the whole point of getting married was combining the finances/time/effort of two people who love each other in order to make their lives easier. What's the point of getting married if you're gonna treat your spouse like a stranger you have no financial ties to. If money from one of your parents is given to buy a house that's the couples money. Not to mention, why do they have separate savings accounts anyways.

Wtf, knives that get dull in the dishwasher? That's a Water Jet Cutter, Sir.
@Archaneus2 жыл бұрын
If you are getting married and buying a house together, there should be no such thing as "her money" and "his money." The idea that people getting married split their expenses and payments is nonsense. Marriage is combining all of your assets into one pool and living as one entity, end of. Anything else is not a marriage, it's a roommate situation.

I think the simple solution to the downpayment one is that it depends on the fathers intentions with the gift. If he gifted the money specifically for the downpayment then it should definitely not replace either of their contributions, and the girl is an ahole for using her dads money to save her own. If the money was intended as a gift for her to be spent on anything she wants to (which I highly doubt considering the amount) then there is an argument to be had that she wouldn't need to contribute out of her savings because that money is already technically hers. But even in that situation the dude can't be called an ahole for expecting it to be an addition to the payment rather than replacing the original planned contribution from her.
