Some people really ARE horrible step-parents. This gf IS a perfect example of that.

Not gonna lie, if they didn’t want the cake that bad, I would tell the ex and the new partner to tell the child they didn’t want another cake. The child would have been devastated! It’s not always about the grownups feelings, it’s about the child’s.

Partner asserting dominance rings so much truth in my life. I have a child with her partner. Our first child all together. Things got so bad she wouldn’t allow him to eat Sammi’s pizza because my name is Samantha… Red flag all together. Holy shit.

I'm Italian and we always had like 8 different desserts at every family party. So hearing this person making so much drama over an extra cake is pretty comical and ridiculous. 😂
@Heather_Duke Жыл бұрын
Right? I'm not Italian, but it's so weird how upset they get over it. As if there aren't like, three or four different pies and multiple different types of cookies at Christmas dinners. Plus, not everyone likes the same flavor of cake, so this second cake could be really helpful.

Let the ex know, I bet they wouldn’t appreciate the new partner asserting dominance and not caring about the kid’s feelings. There is something to be ironed out here(or cut off altogether).
@Raraking4796 Жыл бұрын
I don’t know about anyone else BUT my kids feelings matter far more than another adults feelings especially if I don’t know them. Why is the new partner so insecure about a fucking cake that’s already been explained is made for and with the children. This was shared multiple times with the new partner. Who claims a party is ruined because a extra cake came to the party with the birthday persons child holding it I’m sure. 🤷♀️🤦♀️
@Heather_Duke Жыл бұрын
The partner acts as if the ex wants to seduce them with the cake when in reality, they made it to make their children happy. Because the kids wanted to make it for their other parent.

I mean yeah that's kind of intruding on their relationship when it's not your place. If they share a child that's always before you though

Cake Story: Personally, I would've just asked the kids to decorate the cake (with supervision) and had *them* give the cake to their parent. Since it's about the kids anyways, you know? Then the new step-parent couldn't complain without looking like an asshole. Plus it's bonding time between OP and their kids.

I have different take. Parents need to tell their children the truth. "We are not making a cake, because dad's wife already got a cake. It doesn’t mean you or I hate him."

When we have a partner we create rituals. Some people breakup and they do not want to let go of those rituals. I know people who have been divorced with their ex for 20 years plus and they HAVE to spend every Thanksgiving together for example. One guy told me that every thanksgiving he HAS to go to his exes home for dinner and she makes him his favorite Apple pie and that he always has issues with his new partners Becuase they are at to go their families house one year or start a new tradition. And guess what? This guys is always single and his ex is happily married. Is weird, get your own life. When I was in there dating world I always asked what was the relationship with the ex; every time the guy said something like: “My ex is my best friend, we talk every day”. I ran the other way because that lack of boundaries ALWAYS came with major boundaries issues with family and other people. Some people are still in love with their ex and the only reason why they are not together is because they cannot get alone for a relationship but still want them very closed in their lives. They can, I have no issues with that, but not with someone I am in a relationship with!

Is not about the cake. I don’t understand the lack of boundaries in this stories. That is why we have a generation of young people that cry when their boss do not give them a gold star for doing their job. Kids can be told No and they will be ok. You sit them down and explain to them that before the day or after they will give them the cake and why is the ex at the party anyways; I am divorced, we have an amicable relationship but we have cleared boundaries. We celebrate everything double for our daughter. If my exes wife tells me no to something in her home that is what needs to happened, same if I say no to something. People break up and think they still have rights when it comes to their ex and disguised it like if for their kids. I have ever had an issue with my exes new wife and her with me because we respect each other’s boundaries.

I don’t have kids and even I understand kids come first Although maybe that’s just because I’m a pet parent and I love kids and I’ve seen enough tv to know not to be that dramatic

Boundaries r ok unless society doesn't approve got it, also what's the problem, kids we can make cake for daddy over the weekend, there is already a cake coming from your new female person in his life, also, I've been in a relationship for 16 yrs, my son wanted me to drop him 16 yrs ago, the guy is literally the best role model my kids have, kids don't always understand and I'm sick children not understanding no as a sentence and then when they get older and are told no, they turn into entitled karen types, and yeah, I don't want my man to end up with his ex, she had two affairs and she wouldn't stop if she wanted him, and isn't there a big to do about putting who ever u deem as a permanent partner down the line comes first, cause kids move out and move on, u live with ur partner for life, I'd throw a fit about the cake, u r eating mine, not hers and about the partner over the kids, what's the age range, who determines when the child over the partner stops and goes huh, I need the details cause I'm that person who want to shun the ex's cake in favor of mine and who is throwing the party, oh just put it up huh, I guess the kids won't mention it, the guess won't ask about it then and no one will ask for a peice to tell the kids hiw a great they did and now the party isn't my party being through all about the kids right...this is a rant, its out of my system, delete it block comment I won't really care to much on it, just tell me it's wrong and none of that will happen and my thunder on a first throwing of a party for my man won't be high jacked by people that won't be cute forever

Such an ignorant and stupid comment. Using they/them as a singular pronoun is not a new "fad" and has been in use in the English language for over 600 years. According to The Oxford English Dictionary, the singular "they" showed up in writing in 1375. That us over 600 years ago, and still commomly used today. YOU probably use it without even realizing it. For example: Jane: "I just got back from the doctor" John: "Oh, what did they say?" Also, even if it WAS a new use of the word, about an estimated 800 to 1,000 new words are added to English language dictionaries every YEAR (in the 20th century alone, more than 90,000 words have been added). Language grows and evolves... there is a reason why we don't speak like Shakespeare.. langue EVOLVES. Please educate yourself in the world of linguistics. You sound VERY uneducated.

You obviously know nothing about English and it's history. They/them has been used as a singular pronoun for 600 years or more.
