I’m convinced that affair is still going on. The woman clearly isn’t dead. Also there would be absolutely no reason to tell his wife about a supposed suicide months after it happened unless he wants to make sure his wife won’t discover the affair this time. If the affair partner is dead, there’s no need for your spouse to snoop around. At least in his twisted mind. And 5 million dollars he denied? Wth that’s absolutely ridiculous. My thoughts are the husband lying, he’s probably talking to her again and doesn’t want the wife to suspect ANYTHING this time which is why he told her she’s gone so he can easily manipulate her with no consequences. It sounds crazy but cheaters will do and say whatever it takes to cheat in peace and clearly it’s not his first time. If she hasn’t seen any proof of a letter, the call records from the ex boyfriend, or even a report about it, the husband is lying and she just needs to leave him after that.

The husband is for sure lying. So many parts of his story should be easy to verify. I'm no probate expert, but I don't think a person can just turn down $5m over the phone. There'd be paperwork involved. This would probably have to be reported on his taxes. What was the name of the lawyer who handled this? Where's the documentation?

A narcissist will gaslight you to the point where you can't tell what is up from down so you end up believing the stupid ass lies they tell you and make you feel guilty for questioning whether you can trust them. The suicide lie was not only to try and keep her from getting suspicious about him still cheating but also to bring her back into his corner and give him the doting he wants because now she feels bad that he "went through all of this". She didn't even tell her friends or family about the affair in the first place, and I guarantee you that's because of past situations involving him where they tried to tell her something wasn't right and he got in her head and convinced her that he was the safe one while they were not. --- speaking from experience

This poor woman… her first instinct is still that this woman is lying when it’s blatant that her husband is making every single part of it up. He not only has triangulated his wife making the ex look crazy, he’s attempted to get his wife to have some guilt over the woman committing suicide. I picture “I chose our marriage over her; I chose our marriage over her LIFE; she reached out nonstop when you couldn’t get over it and I still chose you; I chose our marriage over 5 million dollars; I chose enduring this alone for the sake of our marriage.” For all she knows, this woman might not have even known the guy had a wife. The fact that OP was made to feel crazy by her husband during the affair means he never regret it, just getting caught. I’ve dated men who make up preposterous lies and sell them well. The $5M thing tipped me off. He sold that as “see what I’m turning down for you”. OP seems so sweet, I feel bad. If you know who she is and where she works, you can check it out for yourself. This feels like a person trying to gaslight their partner into pitying him and forgiving him cuz he’s going through a loss, blaming himself for her death, and he did the ‘noble thing’ by rejecting this fictional money. I don’t think that if she left him so much money, her family wouldn’t try to contest it, not necessarily out of greed, but because most people won’t want their loved one’s married ex-lover, who was one of the reasons your loved one ended things, to benefit from their death.

So...I have to wonder, I do think it's possible he's still lying, but it makes me wonder if he's been catfished. Was their affair in person? Or just digital? Flirting, pictures, phone calls. It's unclear what he did, it just says he had an affair. So I wonder if it could be possible that she catfished him and is trying to reel him back in. I think he was resentful towards the wife for getting caught and having to give up his AP. So he decided to make her feel guilty for it. But how do you get your wife to feel bad that she broke the two of you up. Everything he says seems like a projection of what he wants. Tell her she committed suicide over me so my wife has this fake death hanging over her head. It solves two problems. She can't be mad if she's dead, got to forgive him because he's so heartbroken, and let me put some guilt on her so she'll never question me again. He might even still be cheating, but doesn't want her sniffing around.
