Here's what should have happened, but only if the sister wasn't a spoiled brat. They should have shared the venue. They should have paid up to compensate for the three years of waiting, then shared everything else. Most of the guest list would be shared anyway so it wouldn't have been an issue. BUT it would only have worked if they had asked privately and respectfully and not sprung it on OP in front of family. And I would have immediately gone no contact with that family after the graduation stunt. No, you do not deserve to be invited to my wedding just because we're blood related. I was not treated as your child, therefore you are not going to be treated as my parents. I want nothing from you, you get nothing from me.

You want me to put my life on hold for three more years? Are you high? That said I never understood the obsession with weddings. The more it costs doesn't make it more special or make you or anyone else more likely to remember it. The more it costs the more you're starting off a life with debt which is just a bad decision no matter how you look at it. To be fair I didn't have to pay a dime for my wedding except for the license, the dress and the rings. My parents set up everything at their house as my stepdad is a minister. It was a little awkward being rushed (not pregnant, there was an issue and my SO wanted distance from his family ASAP) but as for the details I wouldn't have changed a thing. It IS who you are marrying and your love that matters most. But that's my situation, not theirs. Just putting my opinions on context. In OP's place the only thing I would have done differently is going NC/getting a restraining order right after graduation and avoiding the whole mess that came later. No wonder the sister didn't graduate college. She should never have been able to graduate preschool with that attitude. "Poor baby" indeed.

If I had a venue I had to booked 3 years in advance, I would not give it up. And just because someone is pregnant doesn’t mean they need the venue… They just want it. And the sister could have booked her own early if she wanted. And the dad mentioned, “It’s not about the venue, but the person you’re marrying.” But that also goes for the sister. To those pointing out how the ‘it’s only a venue’ can also apply for the sister, here’s two things. 1: The baby she was pregnant with wasn’t the boyfriend’s: She wanted to baby trap him. (Before any one asks, found out in comments of other channels that shared this story..Which also reveals that the sister lost the baby due to her drinking.) And 2: She wanted the venue because her sister had it. And since the parents don’t follow the same logic for the sister, of course they will go along with her demands that OP give up the venue just to make their little princess happy.

Within the first few lines you get the whole story: "... Because she is premature and needs it more." She doesn't "Need" it more. She can have a nice modest wedding someplace or even a courthouse wedding (not sure where she's located but pretty much every county in my state has a cute little chapel with flowers and such for that purpose) and then save up money for her own fancy wedding later on. She doesn't NEED anything but she WANTS the Op's stuff.
