Ah, Ajahn Brahm, a fantastic monk and a breath of fresh air to Buddhist learning and teachings - and sometimes hilarious into the bargain! Fantastic!

which has nothing to do with the path or the practice taught by Buddha. He's a nice man but unfortunately should be in the stand up comedian business instead of monkdom. Thrown out of the Thai Theravada Tradition who ordained him, for Ordaining Bhikkhunis in Secret without proper permission, causing schisms in a 2500 year old tradition. A total Imbecile im afraid

Now move to the other side of the argument and debate from the opposite direction! Misogyny is a manifestation of ignorance whatever the clever rationale for it. Whilst we may point to a cultural need to protect women from men in the Buddha's time, all things change, and it may usefully be argued that this is no longer skilful or useful today in the twenty first century Western Sangha. However the problem is that Western Theravadin monastries rely on their sense of authenticity from the mother monasteries in the Developing world. Such progressive issues such as women's rights are not traditional to South East Asia where the robes and the patronage comes from. As to humour it is one of the eight pillars of joy and can be used as a skilful means. Ajahn Brahma is expressing the Dharma as an individual in his own way. This caused an inevitable interpretation of the situation where Ajahn Brahm was deemed to be causing a schism in the Sangha. It was therefore appropriate for all parties that he became an independent teacher. I have no dog in the race. I am simply happy that this man is teaching the Dharma. As for him being an inbecile? Hmm.......

The simple idea of forcing a smile is deeper than people give credit for. Doing do relieves tension in the body and mind, which is a great way to help fight depression, since depression is a highly stressful and frustrating state to be in.

@AjarnSpencer6 жыл бұрын
emotions are supposed to be stilled, hence the word dhukkha is an abbreviation of dukkha vedhana (afflictive emotions).. Ajarn Brahm stirs emotions, instead of stilling them. he is not a wise teacher, and distorts the Dhamma. Dhamma is a double edged sword, you can cut yourself with it if you teach it wrongly. Comedy is not a tool in Dhamma teaching, you should listen to Thanissaro Bhikkhu instead

I love Ajahn Brahm talks. I have watched most of his videos. Every day I watch one of his video. He talks about letting go, about being able to handle strong emotions but he never teach us an exact technique to let it go, or handle strong emotions. They keep coming up even I thought of letting it go. It has been ingrained since years. There should be a technique. I think he should let us know an exact way of letting go.

You can try breathing techniques ....excellent book anapana for serious beginners by Ajahn Buddhadasa .....even on free pdf ...Very clear instructions. For letting go have a look at Sedona and release ...Hale Dwoskin and Kris Dillard are really good ...you can use these ways of letting go in a Buddhist context ....ie with ethics and generosity ....basically it's relaxing ....welcoming an emotion and then letting it go. ....go on retreats, where a method is taught ...if possible go to a teacher who has experienced Nibbana ...as they know the path ....

Thank you for sharing the...peace, beauty and joy. B.S. to the dogma associated with all religions. If it defeats the human soul it is not good for wellbeing... Me my and mine us vs them will destroy humankind. If it feeds peace, beauty and joy our world can thrive. God will sort it out when we die but it is our job here to leave the world better than we found it... Blessings to everyone.
