Lenny Yoro for me is the best option maybe inacio as a backup to Martinez and LB cover. Yoro is a generational talent he’s not as good as Todibo currently and would defo cost more but he’s got potential to be elite and is already playing at a better level than all united current CB except Martinez

Todibo isn't perfect. I had reservations about him, especially his aeriel duels. He is not elite in that sense. Martinez is the shortest CB in prem... so his partner needs to compensate for that

People will battle me on the signing but I still think United should sign Matthijs de Ligt. He is great in the air, great passer and tackler. People say he is slow but he has deceptive speed. I would love a De Ligt and Martinez partnership. Plus he would only cost £43m.

Would you mind having a look at Soungoutou Magassa from Monaco, a 6'2 CB, 20 y.o, right footed. And his passing stats look really good. And imo he passes the eye test aswell, and his fbref stats approve of it aswell.

Maxence Lacroix from Wolfsburg who was Tottenham’s Van de Ven partner in crime would be an ideal alternative for now. Quick, strong, good channel defender, okay passer as Wolfsburg don’t have the ball as much as other better bundesliga teams and his contract ends in 2025 so could be cheap. Anyone I sign this summer i need to make sure has all the physical attributes to play a high line and are quality because overall need the squad to be good. But I would still sign Todibo next season hopefully if Manchester United and Nice aren’t in the same competition. The other thing as well I was thinking can Man Utd not just purchase Todibo now and then not use him in UEFA competitions this season? Although, I really like Leny Yoro in the prem starting an 18 year old CB for the majority of the season and competitions is very risky.

Maxence lacroix one yr left on his deal & available for 25-30 mill; Kevin Danso, Ilya zabarni, loïc bade, koussounou, Christian Mosquera are all good cheap alternatives to Todibo & yoro

The options are limited and ultimately we need to make sure we stop wasting money on players who aren't good enough. Personally now Todibo is off the table I'd go all in for Branthwaite. Better to spend 60-70m on a player who is good enough, EPL proven, young enough to be our first choice for the next decade and counts as homegrown. The other options are spending 40m on someone who is far more likely to flop, and either isn't as good or has as much potential. 70m for Branthwaite is better than 40m on the next Lindelof. One improves our team while the other doesn't. No point spending money to stand still. What I would do though is try and sell AWB and then look to replace him with a RB who can cover at CB, someone like Mohamed Simakan would be ideal. That way you get upgraded cover at both RB and CB. If you aren't signing someone to be first choice in one position then you need to make sure they offer you more options off the bench by being able to play several positions/roles.

While I get the idea, you are potentially throwing 25m down the drain if he doesn't adapt to the EPL. If you have a good squad that doesn't need much work and you have money to spare then he's the sort of player you spend it on. But we have a limited budget, and we have an entire squad that needs rebuilding. We cannot afford to take chances on players who have a high chance of failure. Better for us to sign one player for 50-60m who will all most definitely be a success, than three players for 25m who are all a risk and could all flop, wasting 75m and further bloating an overcrowded squad with more players we need to shift who aren't good enough.
