Well i play the same style of music that Aj . do's and Alison is mostly newer type of bluegrass. But i love them both .and Molly Tuttle also has a beautiful voice She play's a lot of old time bluegrass an older ballad's an some folk song's as well .

Don Bond Yes, I love both kinds of bluegrass. And lots of other music of other genres as well. My point was merely that Alison has an "amazingly clear voice" .In fact she is known for that and seeing as she is older and has been singing longer, I would think one would have heard her too. And to my ears Alison voice sounds the more amazingly clear. That was all I was trying to say. But I like AJ. That is why I see out her videos. :-)

Been listening to your songs all night. It's 2 in the morning now. Saw an earlier comment by someone suggestion songs by Rodriquez. His full name is. Sixto Rodriguez, he's from Detroit. Best way to know about him is watch the video, "Searching for Sugarman" Remarkable songwriter/singer. Not sure if most of his music would fit your style but listen and see for yourself. @dogpatch75 Thanks for that link dp75. I did really enjoy hearing her do that mandolin solo. I wish there were more videos of her doing that. I did not realize she was THAT GOOD! I do want to hear her sing though on most videos, but some instrumentals are fine when she does that! I actually do not have a problem with any of the older videos and her stage presence, it is just when I saw her smiling a little on Pins and Needles, I thought she should do that a little more. She seems so serious.

Even though she did not play mandolin, I feel like I am watching Emmylou as a preteen. Similar appearance and style. Nobody can do again what Emmylou has done in her career, but I think it is so possible that AJ will be consistantly interesting and find great people to collaborate with just as EH did and create a great body of work in future years. If I have any complaint, if you want to call it that, she needs to let herself go a bit more and smile. She is maybe too serious. Have fun AJ!

i don't pretend to be an expert either, but i think you have this reversed. country didn't grow out of bluegrass, bluegrass grew out of country. in the late 30's or mid forties bill monroe and others sped up what was commonly known as hillbilly music and just started playing about as fast & wild as they could, of course with bills "high lonesome" singing style rounding things out. the musical style even got its name from his band, bill monroe & the bluegrass boys.
