I understand what you mean about preserving these great varieties. Once i went along a lane and thought I will like to cut some of those plant to root in my place A month later I went the same way... lo and behold those plants had been taken down. I didn't go to cut it because it gets so dark nowadays. I was so sad for a bit. Thanks for what you do

One thought, if you place you grafts under the older leaf canopy or the shadier side of the tree, you will have less sun damage. Specially if you graft in the later winter/early spring. They will need sun protection most of the time. Very helpful video. Thank you.

Have you ever try t-budding avocado scion? I think with t-budding, success rate is very high because you will always have perfect contact between the scion & root stock whereas with cleft graft, it can be a challenge to align the cambium layer. But with t-budding, the growth rate is slower than cleft graft.

ajmal, yet another fantastic video. i can't get over how chunky your scions are! the pieces i get are at the end of branches and so they are small compared to what i'm seeing you do. i'm all over this 'preservation' gig so big ups to you for doing what you're doing. i only wish it were easy to share scion wood internationally cos i'd be keen for any of your scions. what i also was impressed with was how well-developed your scion was after six weeks. many of mine have taken but not nearly as developed. too bad we can't share pics on here. good luck.

Hey! first off absolutely LOVE your videos! Question… Can I graft my avocado scion onto other trees that are not avocado trees? Just received cuttings from a neighbour’s fruiting tree, but I don’t have an avocado tree of my own. Is there any other common types of trees where using your method would allow my grafts to work? Thank you so much for your help! :)

Thanks! Unfortunately, that isn’t possible. Avocado must be grafted to an avocado tree. However, peach, plum, nectarine, apricot, and cherry are all graft compatible. You can graft any of those onto each other

Question for you AJ, if you don't mind. Do strip off all the leaves on the rootstock after grafting the desired varieties or do you just leave them on there? And should the grafted part be fully covered by the tape or can it be just at the union of the rootstock and the graft?

HELP ... saving an avocado tree. My neighbor several days ago decided to uproot and get rid of an avocado tree in a common area to our properties. He had his workmen remove the tree and I was sad so I asked if he could transplant them into my yard, which he did. The problem is that there are lots and lots of leaves on it, the tree itself is about 8 feet tall, was fairly healthy, and had a lot of leaves on it. They did not save the root ball, so what they ended up doing is pulling it out and leaving some roots attached to it. After I saw that I am afraid it is just going to wither and die. Already a couple of days later leaves are falling off it. Is there anything I can do to save this tree? - should I pull all the leaves off it? - should I top it off down to some smaller height? - should I cut all the branches off it? I don't know what to do, but I'm thinking there might be something that would keep this alive, even if it is cut back severely and takes a long time to recover?
@gjs5605 жыл бұрын
justgivemethetruth The Root System is correspond to the upper portion of the tree. So the branch leaves will lose because the lost of root eventually. Cut off the branches to reflect how many root survive after transplant. It will come back once root is established. Good luck!
@justgivemethetruth5 жыл бұрын
Thanks @@gjs560

The weakened root system won't be able to support all the branches and leaves. I would cut the tree back severely. Remember avocados sunburn easily, so whatever part remains you should cover with a basic latex white paint. Hopefully, once you plant the tree back into the ground, it will recover. Good luck!!

Seems so stupid to cut all the trees down for new development, I understand that some will need to be removed but any large strong quality trees that can be saved can add big value to a new development, you simply can't get back those decades of growth and tree-bare property is shit.
