Great to watch your video and confirm that I didn't rush it when I grafted onto 1-2-month-old seedlings. I even tried my hand by grafting two thinner scions into a single cleft of a 1-year-old seedling. Holding my breath on that one. One thing I would recommend is to use aluminum foil, shiny side out, around the scion to reflect any unwanted hard light. Might be useful to those of us who can't store the seedling-graft in total shade.

Is the plant getting too much wind because it is open area in the backyard and sometimes it is too windy. Should I move it to partial sun where there is less wind. It is 2ft tall tree. I added gypsum also after watching your video. When I bought the tree from nursery we could see the avocado seed which was very healthy but now it is shrinking. Nice video, couple of questions I bought a 4-5 foot grafted cold hardy avocado, but was told by local grower it may not be as cold hardy as advertised due to smell of leaves. If I buy another "cold" hardy avocado can I graft those 2 together. Meaning g can I take a branch from each other and try and graft to the other? 2. If I take a young seedling as you did in this video can I graft 2 different types of avocado to it if I put on at top as you did in video and another on side if bark is big enough?
@AJTheGraftMan2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can graft the 2 together. Yes you can graft two different types of avocado onto one young seedling tree. I would make sure the seedling's trunk is thick enough to take the side graft. About a 1/2 inch trunk thickness is good.

I love this! Thank you for positing! I have a question, you mentioned you left it outside in the shade.... did it cold at nights where you are at? I just grafted 6 plants in a pot (grafted on 2/14/2021)- but I’m unsure if I should leave them inside next to a window - with morning sun (I can lower the blinds to filter out the sun) or if I should put them outside (in the shade). It’s still kind of chilly in the Bay Area (CA), but I just wanted to get your insight?
@AJTheGraftMan3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes it’s chilly here too. Leaving them inside next to the window is a great idea. I would lower the blinds so direct sun doesn’t hit them. Filtered sun is fine. Good luck!

Hi, I have only 1 tree because my son experimented (successfully) with an Avocado seed. Should I/Can I graft it and how (considering that I don't have another tree to grab a branch from) ?
@PalAl112 жыл бұрын
Since you are growing in a pot is there a time that's better to graft than others. I see this was done in August, I have a 5-6 foot tree that I got off of fast-growing trees and have a seeding that's about same size as yours. Thinking about trying my hand this month.
@AJTheGraftMan2 жыл бұрын
I get most success in early spring and late summer. Basically the transition times of the year when the seasons are changing. If I remember right, I believe you live in Texas? Might be still too hot in august there to do this, unless you keep your containers indoors in temperature controlled areas. Another reason why I grafted that time of year is because good grafting buds form on the trees around that time
@PalAl112 жыл бұрын
I can definitely keep inside by windows
