@OneSilentGiant no offense, but the lyrics could be amazing, the actual music itself still needs to be good. He listens to a lot of music, so do I, I’ve been a musician my entire life, the music itself is really safe and unoriginal, imo. People who aren’t really “music nerds” tend to focus more on lyrics than on songwriting and instrumentation and all of that. Same people who ask “where’s the singing” on an instrumental track. I get and respect that opinion but they don’t realize how much the actual music itself means. Good lyrics by themselves are just a poem, not a song. Lyrics are just one part of what makes a song good or bad, and they can’t carry the music by themselves. I disagree with melon all the damn time, you’re allowed to have different opinions. Don’t get mad at him for not liking AJR, he probably liked something recently that you would hate as well.

Brayden Heidrich In my opinion what makes them so good is part of the reason Anthony despises them. Their songwriting mainly speaks of problems and extreme struggles that people face such as losing a parent or moving out and shows that the writer is just not ready for all that this world throws at him. It’s very relatable. Not to mention the instrumental is very catchy and in many cases fun to listen to.

@@braydenheidrich3730 I like AJR, because it feels like they're wearing their hearts on their sleeves. Compared to more complex texts, their writing really isn't great. They bring a kind of naivety to the table that seems incredibly genuine to me. Turning Out for example isn't a lyrical masterpiece at all and kind of stupid when you look at the lyrics and analyse them, but I think it is incredibly touching for some reason. One of the things that Fantano doesn't like about them - that they sound so bouncy - is one of the things I enjoy about them so much. The singer sounds like he has a constant smile on his face, and that makes it all the more enjoyable. Most of my enjoyment stems purely from the fact that I think they're actually how they present themselves. If it turns out they're actually super calculating and not a bunch of well-meaning idiots (I mean this in the most positive sense possible) trying to make good music I take it all back. I also think their music sounds pretty good, but that's purely individual taste and I don't have a deeper explanation for that.

I have only ever seen negative reviews of both the Click and Neotheater with most people hating everything apart from maybe one or two songs. I really like them, but I guess that's just me. There's also so much complaining about their fanbase but from what I've seen the AJR fanbase is pretty chill. I do think the guys themselves tend to speak a little too pretentiously about their music (this has never been done before, etc) but I still love them a lot. Whatever, everyone has their own opinions of them and that's fine! I just really enjoy their songs, melodies and lyrics.
