AIM-9X for air to ground use, it is capable in real life.

@onenerdarmy5 жыл бұрын
@@fonglebomngle163 you need to update your knowledge, they are now multiple iterations of 9X that can tackle ground targets - Navy really wanted something that could take out an IRGC speedboat even if the fighter in the area only has A2A missiles. There were A2G sidewinder experiments in the Vietnam war, this is a long-standing capability.

Yeah even the R60s on the MiG-21 supposedly have AG capability, as long as you find yourself a reasonably hot target. I also did use AIM-9Ps successfully against groundtargets in the past using my F5, since you can just dumbfire them.

@@grimreapers Actually, Just to chime in... In Randy Cunningham's book "Fox Two" (Yeah, I know... He did go to prison for taking bribes but he was the leading ace of the Vietnam War. ) He mentions how he got a lock on a truck that probably needed a valve job with a Sidewinder. He fired the missile and it did guide destroying the truck and probably several other trucks carrying supplies along the Ho Chi MInh Trail. (If I recall correctly.)

Even if they do see it coming, you're right, having to go cold that far would put them way out of position. I could see that being a really useful tactic.

Using a plane like this would make the most sense in the Metal campaign, where low tech planes become a necessity due to cost. I'm enjoying the revival of the Coffee campaign, but I do look forward to seeing the Metal campaign return, mostly because I am a nerd for numbers.

I found that interesting too. Flares wouldn't help much against a Maverick, but it's actually sensible for the pilot to see a missile without RWR, assume it's IR-guided, and drop flares.

I really enjoy seeing Cap in the Viggen. Realated question to the F-16 video and the risk of disappointment; is there any aircraft in DCS were Cap felt "meh" about beforehand, but really enjoy flying? I get the impression Viggen is such a case.

Viggen. Sabre. F-5. Mig-21. Mainly for the Fun factor than actual usage.

These things (were? are?) borderline broken as fuck Cap. There's webms and tacview videos of them missing targets and coming back around 180 degrees to miss again, then doing it AGAIN to smash into the target they have locked. If you ever watched Robotech, that's what these missiles are from when it comes to air-to-air.

I'm a bit confused. It looks like you are shooting down fighters with what is essentially a maverick missile which is a air to ground missile. Would this be a cheat in DCS world? Is it even possible to shoot down a fighter in the real world with a maverick? Thanks in advance.

the vbest use for them on air targets is helos as Enigma also showcased on his KZbin channel, and with the way the missles work is does make sense it's just a little dubious is all :)

Every missile in DCS leads their target
@Maeyanie5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but if you put a bit of lead on the shot with the plane, the missile doesn't have to do a sudden turn as soon as it comes off the rail. I doubt it would matter much with a long-burn missile like this though.

@@0Ignition0 Aim-9 and some versions of the maverick leads the target according to the propotional navigation principle, its not an intercept, and its not chase, its something in between, which is extremely easy to implement with IR/optical sensors
