Thanks for the tutorial! Some tips that helped me remove the responder: -I used to hair blower (I don't have a heat gun) to make the plastic more bendy. -I used a pair of thin nose pliers to bend out the outer edge near the responder (It's easy because there's a raised lip) Honestly, it was harder getting the key out for me haha. It’s pretty easy to do. Took me about 10 mins. New fob feels better when using versus oem fob

Honestly seems like it could have been done easier with a heat gun and pliers for both the key and the transponder piece - could have made the whole process less destructive and scary too

I'm sure it could, but you should ask AJT before cutting it up.

I have a replacement key that I never use, it's an aftermarket key without the letter G, but it's compatible with the G key part number (HYQ12BBY G), can I destroy this one instead? Or I have to go after the OEM G key? I opened both key and did a visual comparison, they seemed to have the exact same guts and layout, even down to the chip size.

Does the aftermarket key work as far as wireless lock/unlock with your 4Runner? It so, then I don't see why not if the button pad fits.

@@BtwilliasGarage it works just like the OEM. I will let you know what happens. Also, the car was bought used, so the back of my OEM key is all scratched up, what information is on that sticker?

@@BtwilliasGarage I just completed the installation with success! The only difference I noticed, is that the root of the metal key, doesn't have the pinky tail, however, it would still fit, and it was a tight fit as well. Overall, 10 dollars well spent.

Btwillia's Garage broke my chip trying to dig it out . I used my secondary Spare , my good one was programmed at Toyota to open all my windows now and paid like $50 just for that , didn’t realize they would charge so much but that’s Toyota and I don’t want to ruin another key

Too risky/destructive for a project that's just for looks. I've modded my 2019 4R TRD Pro in a number of ways, but I think I'll pass on this one. Thx for the video!

Completely understand! It's not for everyone. Once you do it you can change the AJT key in like 30 seconds to another. Also, you have a spare key. It's pretty much a ~$100 risk for the small chance you break it and new a new key/programming. Thanks for taking the time to comment!

It looks way more intimating than it is. Just be careful not to cut or plier grab the trandsponder and it's a 20 min job total. The super glue lines make it easy to follow and dig in to with a sharp razor blade. Ship it to me and I'll knock it out for you if you want haha.

I just did this for my new 4runner a couple hours ago, and I'm a very basic DIY guy (I can swap out an outlet/switch or paint a room, but I'm not running a new electric line or tackle plumbing, for instance). Just don't rush and it'll be fine. Took me about 25 minutes to get the transponder out. Maybe 40 minutes start to finish - and now I'm looking to see if there's a kit for the other car.
